Description

"Schorr ( A State of Jane ) mixes and matches couples with charming aplomb in this sweet-natured romcom. Controlling, occasionally selfish attorney Sidney Bellows and cute-as-a-button, innocent elementary school music teacher Robyn Lane are tired of being judged by their families for their choices in boyfriends. They make an ill-advised drunken deal at a wine party: Sidney will take Robyn's offbeat, laid-back actor boyfriend, Perry Smith, to her wealthy parents' home in Scarsdale, N.Y., for Christmas, and Robyn will head back to Bala Cynwyd, Pa., with Sidney's serious lawyer boyfriend, Will, for the holidays. Things get complicated when Robyn finally meets Will and realizes he is Will Brady, her teenage crush and former next-door neighbor--and even more so when Robyn admits to herself that she's still head-over-heels for him. Despite a far-fetched plot device, the author manages to easily reel readers in from the start, especially with quintessential girl-next-door Robyn and chivalrous lawyer Will. (Sidney and Perry are a slightly harder sell.) Pieces of the puzzle are thoroughly and appealingly mixed up in this well-paced tale, and younger readers and fans of sweet romance will appreciate that the action on the page is limited to innocent kissing." Publishers Weekly"With a premise that rivals the best film rom-coms, The Boyfriend Swap is filled with romance, humor and heart -- a delight from beginning to end. Meredith Schorr delivers chick lit gold!" -- Jamie Brenner, USA Today bestselling author of The Forever Summer "Schorr begins with a wonderful premise: two women swap boyfriends--the type of guys they think will keep their ever-inquisitive parents at bay while everyone is home for the holidays. Then, with each scene, Schorr ramps up the stakes for everything to go wrong--which it does with hilarious consequences. But the way in which Schorr handles both heroines' soul-searching journeys to self-fulfillment--with or without Mr. Right at her side--is why I flat-out loved this book. Trust me, you will too." -- Josie Brown, author of Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives "Fast-paced and fun. I loved this charming story." -- Michele Gorman, USA Today and Sunday Times bestselling authorxa0"Meredith Schorr has created a whimsical,starry-eyed holiday tale--a merry little romp about second chances and unexpected connections." -- Phoebe Fox, author of the Breakup Doctor series "A sweet and sexy book that will make you smile and not stop reading until you find out how all the characters end up. It's a charming story about truly finding your perfect match in love, life, and work." -- Susie Orman Schnall, author of The Balance Project "Friends swap shoes, purses and gossip. Why not boyfriends? Warm, witty and winning, The Boyfriend Swap is wonderful entertainment you'll want to share with your best friend." -- Karin Gillespie, author of Divinely Yours A born-and-bred New Yorker, Meredith Schorr discovered her passion for writing when she began to enjoy drafting work-related emails way more than she was probably supposed to. After trying her hand penning children’s stories and blogging her personal experiences, Meredith found her calling writing chick lit and humorous women’s fiction. She secures much inspiration from her day job as a hardworking trademark paralegal and her still-single (but looking) status. Meredith is a loyal New York Yankees fan, an avid runner, and an unashamed television addict.

Features & Highlights

  • If you love Christmas movies, as in you check the Hallmark Channel guide starting in July, then hang on to your stockings, because here comes the merriest of indulgences. It’s “The Proposal” meets “The Holiday” in print.
  • First meet Robyn Lane. She’s always dated struggling creative types, including her current squeeze (Perry, an actor). For this year’s Chrismukkah celebration, her parents would love her to bring someone stable, reliable, steadily employed. You know, with health insurance and a 401(k).
  • Now let’s meet Sidney Bellows. Her parents already plan her professional life (she’s an attorney at her father’s law firm). If she brings her current boyfriend (Will, an attorney) to the family Christmas extravaganza, her parents will have their wedding planned by New Year’s Eve.
  • Leave it to a mutual friend (and copious amounts of wine) to find a playful solution: Swap those boyfriends, fool the parents, and enjoy the holidays. It’s perfect! Robyn can show off a successful attorney boyfriend, and Sidney’s high-society family won’t ring those wedding bells when they meet a flaky actor beau.
  • The fun isn’t in the theory, it’s in the practice.
  • Will turns out to be the boy-next-door Robyn crushed on hard throughout her teenage years. Sidney’s family fawns all over Perry like he’s an Oscar-winner rather than a D-list wannabe.
  • Fool the parents? Enjoy the holidays? Swapping boyfriends never sounded so good or went so bad. Take time to read this one. It’s like Christmas in July.

Something you'll want to unwrap this holiday season!

By Melissa Amster

I’ve enjoyed every book Meredith Schorr has ever written, so even if she hadn’t told me what The Boyfriend Swap would be about, I’d read it just because she wrote it. It’s just a bonus that the concept was clever and would pave the way for many amusing situations. It made me think of a book called The Great Mom Swap that I read as a kid. However, this one had a more romantic element to it!

From the implementation of the boyfriend swapping plan to watching it unfold at Sidney and Robyn’s family homes to the aftermath of the plan, I was hooked. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but this story allowed me to enjoy it vicariously (there were some Hanukkah parts too). I was able to relate more to Robyn than to Sidney, but I still enjoyed the parts where Sidney was telling her side of the story.

By the time I got to the final page, I was laughing and crying at the same time. The Boyfriend Swap is a book you’ll definitely want to unwrap this holiday season!

I’ve heard buzz about how this would make a great Hallmark holiday movie. I agree, but would be glad to see it on any channel! I cast two of the actresses from The Bold Type as Robyn and Sidney. It made sense with their personalities and appearance. (The guys were harder to cast…)
Robyn: Katie Stevens
Sidney: Meghann Fahy
Perry: Austin Butler
Will: Robbie Amell
Ann-Marie: Britt Robertson
James: RJ Mitte

The Boyfriend Swap

Meredith Schorr has become one of my favorite authors, and I think The Boyfriend Swap is now my favorite of her books. It is the perfect holiday book, and if you're looking for a good read for Christmas, you can stop your search now. This would be the ideal book to read while curled up with a warm blanket, next to a cozy fire, drinking hot chocolate.

I've read several reviews that mention this would be a perfect Hallmark Christmas movie, and I have to say I agree. While reading, I could definitely picture this book working as a movie. Maybe one day!

I actually read this in July, and even though it was summer and terribly hot, the book still put me in the Christmas spirit. I'm considering reading it again closer to Christmas, which is quite a compliment, as I rarely read a book twice in one year. Another compliment? I still remember the characters! I sometimes struggle to remember characters, book plots, etc, after a while, simply because I read so much, and unless a book really stands out, I tend to forget the details pretty quickly. Not so with The Boyfriend Swap. As I said, I read this in July and it's almost November now, and it's still fresh in my mind.

The Boyfriend Swap is so well-written, with wonderful character development, witty humor, sweet romance, and a healthy dose of Christmas. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a good story, especially to those who love light-hearted chick-lit books with unforgettable characters.

Meredith’s best book yet...

I've been a long time fan of Meredith's books, in fact she is my favorite chic-lit author. Every time she comes out with a new book, it instantly becomes my favorite. The Boyfriend Swap was no exception.
Face paced and laugh out loud funny , The Boyfriend Swap is a delightful read. It's a little drama a little romance, and a whole lot of fun. Hooked from page one, I didn't want to put it down. I had to know, How does this crazy Swap end? Does it work? Does it go as planned? It was a wild ride!
One of my picks as best summer reads, if you enjoy romantic comedy and chic-lit definitely check this book out!

I voluntarily reviewed a an arc that of this book,
The opinions are my own.

Loved the Christmas setting

The Boyfriend Swap by Meredith Schorr- I picked up this older title with it’s Christmas setting on a whim and am so happy that I did. I adored this whimsical RomCom and will read more by this author. Loved it and strongly recommend it.

Wrapped up in Love

What a wonderful romantic comedy to kick off the holiday season! The story centers around Robyn and Sidney, two unmarried acquaintances, who would rather peel paint with their fingernails than subject their casual boyfriends to a holiday family meet-and-greet. Each feels their personal life doesn’t quite measure up to their parents’ expectations. So they come up with the boyfriend swap and convince their significant others to play along, thereby switching dates for the holidays. And while this plans seems to be a no brainer in the success department, the one thing happens they hadn’t counted on. Their parents not only like the new boyfriends but proceed to welcome them with open arms. Robyn and Sidney also begin to have feelings for their “pretend” dates, leading to more confusion. Will the boyfriend swap end with a fantastic case of opposites attracting or will their masterplan blow up in their faces? I invite readers to curl up with this heart-warming, funny, holiday tale that Meredith Schorr weaves together so perfectly it will keep you entertained until the very last page.

Go ahead and swap

This book is so great! I never read after getting in bed, but I seriously found myself reading this under my blanket after my husband fell asleep. To me, this is a well written, lighthearted book that gives readers hope that happy endings are definitely possible. Each character was so unique, likable, and relatable - I could see myself being bffs with Robyn and having a schoolgirl crush on both of the guys.

Kudos to Ms. Schorr for an outstanding book!

~ I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

It will make you laugh and maybe even cry a little at the end

What do you do when you don't want your parents involved in your personal life? You take a pretend boyfriend home for the holidays....because we all know that is going to work, right? Wrong! Even worse? It might be your childhood crush dating the woman who has proposed swapping boyfriends.

I'm not sure that I would have ever thought to do something like this, but then I don't have the family situations that Sidney and Robyn have that they think that swapping boyfriends is a good idea. The funny thing is that maybe this was a good idea and perhaps neither was dating the right person.

I identified with both Sidney and Robyn. Sidney for her controlling manner and hiding her feelings and protecting her heart. And Robyn, for her crazy creative side with a heart of gold. Then there are the guys - Perry (Robyn's boyfriend) who is a wannabe actor but not serious about anything in life; and Will, Sidney's boyfriend but Robyn's childhood crush and is that crush dead or will it come back while spending several days together? You will find out when you read the book!

This story made me laugh, shake my head and even get a little misty at the end. It was a great culmination of everything that I like to see in a book. This author writes some great romantic comedies and I can't wait to see what comes next.

Do you ever read a book and just know it would be an awesome movie? The characters are larger than life and they’re screaming to be brought to life and you’re silently casting said movie in your head? That’s exactly what happened while I was reading this one, this would be the cutest romantic comedy movie, but it was also a super fun read.

As a reader, you know that the whole idea of swapping mates is a disaster waiting to happen, but that’s part of what made this so entertaining. Robyn was my favorite character, she kind of gets bulldozed by Sidney and just sort of goes along with her crazy scheme and after getting to know Sidney, it’s easy to see how she was manipulated. She is a lawyer after all AND she’s crafty and smart too boot, this is a woman used to getting her way. Sidney and Robyn are pretty different in terms of personality, Robyn is quirky and sweet to Sidney’s bold and brash and I really enjoyed getting to know both of these woman, Schorr created memorable, relatable characters that I think any woman would enjoy reading about.

This was my first book by the author but it certainly won’t be my last, she’s a solid writer and this was a really funny book. The scenes that happened on Christmas Day were some of my favorite moments, and both Will and Perry were charming in their own right. Chick lit fans who haven’t had the pleasure of reading Schorr’s books should definitely pick this one up, it was adorable!

What a fun book!

What a fun book! This is the first non-serious book I’ve read in a while and I really enjoyed it. Robyn & Sidney had no idea what would happen when they swapped boyfriends Perry and Will but it was so fun reading how it all unfolded. I preferred Robyn & Will’s storyline but Sidney & Perry’s adventure was good too. I loved the ending where one storyline was left to the imagination and the other one was played out on the page. The supporting characters were great and added so much to the story.
This book was fun but also touched on some serious issues like the importance of music education for kids, work-life balance and how to be a better person.

This book is SO stinking fun! When you start this…don’t plan on doing anything else until you get to the last delicious page.
Robyn and Sidney meet at a women’s only “wine party” and after many beverages, they commiserate about their dread of the upcoming holidays. They both have fantastic boyfriends. It’s their families that are the problem.

Robyn, “the cute” music teacher loves to date artsy men and Perry the hottie with a strong sexual appetite is just her style. Unfortunately, all Robyn’s parents see is a struggling actor/musician who isn’t going anywhere and they can’t wait for him to get lost.

Sidney, the classy ultra-sophisticated attorney is dating Will, who is intelligent, good looking and a fellow attorney. He’s the total package wrapped up in a bow for her parents. Sidney knows if she takes him home for the holidays, her attorney father will talk shop the whole time and frankly she deals with her dad enough at the office. And then, there’s a chance that if her family likes him … Sidney might lose interest. This girl loves a challenge.

Their mutual and mildly intoxicated friend, Anne Marie flippantly suggests that the women switch boyfriends for the week. The wild and zany idea just might work, right? The women will be able to relax and enjoy Christmas; they won’t care what their families think about their “borrowed” significant other.

The rest of the novel is absolutely jam-packed with laugh out loud comedy, a couple of life’s most embarrassing moments revealed, extreme kindness as well as insensitivity, mild flirtation, infatuation and so much more.
I SO enjoyed this book and will be gifting it to several friends.
