Description

How is America tied into ancient biblical prophecies? According to author Michael Evans, a fundamentalist Christian minister, biblical prophets already predicted that America is doomed to collapse unless its government stops accommodating the Arab world for the sake of oil and instead offers full military and diplomatic support to Israel. He believes that God wants Israel to have full control of the West Bank and Gaza, and Americans are risking God's wrath by not fully supporting this biblical mandate. Evans also theorizes that much of America's problems--including the attack of 9-11--are indications of God's fury over America's split allegiance between the two famous descendents of Abraham: Ishmael and Isaac. "We are caught in a tug of war between two brothers--between oil, political expedience, and conscience in many ways--and it our decisions and polices concerning these two brothers that will determine whether the United States will survive or go the way of the Roman Empire," he writes. Evans's prophetic foundation begins with the parable of the fig tree (Matthew 24:32-44), in which he interprets the various signs Jesus gave his disciples to mark "the final age and his return." Obviously, the Bible can be interpreted many ways, and Evans uses 17 chapters to weave in interpretations of scripture that support his theory that America faces a mammoth choice--ruin or salvation. Although actual quotes from scripture are rather sparse throughout the book, he concludes with a five-page index of "Ancient Prophecies" that indirectly support his theory. One caveat--Evans ( Beyond Iraq ) does not hide his vehement anti-Muslim leanings. This book will probably be offensive to Christians who practice religious tolerance and lean toward a more-inclusive solution to American diplomacy in the Middle East. -- Gail Hudson From Publishers Weekly Does America have an explicit role in biblical prophecy? Absolutely, says Evans, a journalist and popular Christian speaker who has come to believe that America is at a crossroads predicted in the Bible. Speaking from a deeply conservative perspective that lauds unqualified support of Israel and decries the "myth that Islam is a peaceful religion," Evans explains that the only reason why Islamic terrorists hate Americans is "simply because they hate us"-an unconvincing tautological argument that ignores the history of several ill-advised U.S. interventions in the Middle East. In 17 chapters, Evans employs a rather tortured biblical hermeneutic to persuade readers of the need for war in Iraq-and a future war with Syria-as well as for stepped-up support for Israel to conform with biblical prophecy. He often ties Muslims with Nazis, arguing that Muslims have adopted Hitlerx92s campaign to exterminate Jews. This book may resonate with ultra-conservative readers who already believe that America is the center of the cosmos. Other Christians will be alarmed by the way it promotes hate-filled stereotypes of Muslims even while it argues that Muslims are dangerous precisely because they promote hate-filled stereotypes of Jews.Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. From Booklist Evans, whose last book, Beyond Iraq (2003), tied biblical prophecies to the current war, here ascribes the hostilities between Arabs and Jews to the ancient sibling rivalry of Abraham's sons: Ishmael, from whom the Arab world descends, and Isaac, a patriarch of the Jews. Evans believes that the U.S., if it expects to receive God's blessing, should side unequivocally with Israel and shun Arab countries despite the lure of oil. Readers will react to the author's theologically driven politics according to their own beliefs, but Evans does offer an interesting history of the relationship between Jews and the U.S. from the earliest days of this country (Haym Salomon was one of the chief financiers of the revolution). In a chapter entitled "Treason," Evans flays Bill Clinton for pressing for a deal between Israel and the PLO. Yet on the topic of the Bush family's well-documented relationship with the Saudi royal family, he is conspicuously reticent. Fans of LaHaye and Jenkins' Left Behind series will be clamoring for this incendiary but sure-to-be-popular work. Ilene Cooper Copyright © American Library Association. Evansx92 impassioned and wide-ranging exploration of current events in the light of ancient Scriptures and Americax92s place in biblical prophecy. From the time George Washington placed his hand upon a Bible and swore the oath to become the first president of the United States, the Jewsx97and more importantly, a Jewish homelandx97have occupied a crucial place in Americax92s history. The second president of the United States, John Adams declared toward the end of his life, "For I really wish the Jews again in Judea an independent nation." Now, internationally renowned Mid-East expert and biblical scholar Mike Evans traces the efforts of American Christians to help establish a Jewish State through a "prophetic memorial," a declaration presented to five successive American presidents outlining the biblical mandate for a Jewish homeland. Evans describes in fascinating detail the events that led in 1948 to the birth of the nation of Israel. The hatred of the Arab world for the Westx97and toward America in particularx97can be traced entirely to this nationx92s identification with Israel. America flirts with danger, Evans says, when it accommodates the Arab world merely for the sake of oil. As God said to Abraham, "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse." Americax92s prophetic future hangs on the nationx92s moral vision and clarity. The hostility of Islamic fundamentalists towards America can be explained succinctly, Evans asserts: it is rooted in bigotry, the ancient prejudice against Jews. Yet, says Evans, "America is cursing what God has blessed (Israel) and blessing what God has cursed (rebuilding Babylon [Iraq]). Does the Bible reveal what will happen to a nation that does this? A thousand percent yes!" Mike Evans is the bestselling author of Beyond Iraq and has published articles in periodicals throughout the world, including The Wall Street Journal and the Jerusalem Post. He has been a confidant to leaders in Israel for more than two decades. He is the founder of the Jerusalem Prayer Team that organizes thousands to seek peace in the Middle East. Be Born Again or Condemned - Review I

Conflicting editorials, and reviews evidence confusion in understanding Mr. Evans' work. {Which also necessitated a second clarification review January 17, 2005.}

Per example, one editorialist closes by suggesting Mr. Evans falls short of inclusivity, determining Mr. Evans has a personal hatred for Muslims. Jesus teaches we must even love our enemy. Scripture declares one cannot love God and hate his fellow man.

Even so, unless born from above, one can misconstrue not only prophecy, but the intended conclusions of works such as 'American Prophecies,' As a Christian, Mr. Evans is obligated to warn against all sinful conduct. To eschew his responsibilities would be a breach of obedience to God's command. This is not to suggest that all in the Kingdom of God have reached maturity.

As Jesus said in John 3:18, "...he who does not believe is condemned already." Jesus is being exclusive in this statement, not illiterate or hateful. He has just uttered perhaps the most oft quoted verse in Scripture, John 3:16, seen by millions of TV viewers of sporting events, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Scripture emphasizes those who Bless Israel shall be blessed, and those who curse Israel shall be cursed.

Mr. Evans is merely listing history that by God's own Word shall become the future.

The Truth Hurts

Michael Evans' book sorts and organizes many complex issues to present them clearly, as his work reveals them in the pure light of Bibical prophecy. If someone wants the truth about Israel, the near future for America, and the eternal destity of the whole world, read this book with an open mind and an open heart. Those who hate to hear the truth and who seek to mislead others can condemn this book all they want, they will soon pass, but the truth of Scripture will triumph, to the smallest detail.

Rationalizaton

Another attempt to rationalize the current problem, continue, and exacerbate it, based upon subjective and warped interpretations of the Bible. The more you read, the more the author's arguments weakens, revealing its flaws, biases, and inacurracies.

Making sense out of the madness.

The love of the writer for his country and the Word of God emanate from the text of this extremely well written study.

Having already read two previous works by the source, namely "Beyond Iraq; The Next Move" and "Jerusalem Betrayed", I purchased this book having been deeply impressed with what I personally considered to be the sound, authoritative and informed manner in which the subject of Biblical prophecy in relation to current events had been approached in these two works. I was not to be disappointed in my additional acquisition of this fine work which will hold the reader's attention from beginning to end.

This particular study analyses the alleged "failures" to deal with Islamic fundamentalism in the context of the attacks upon the World Trade Centre and the implications of the ensuing "war on terrorism" together with what the book describes as a "moral compromise" that has allegedly seen Bible believing Christians in America being demonized as "bigots and extremists" whilst alleging that God has simultaneously been "dethroned" and taken out of schools, courts & other areas of authority.

The roots of the alleged hostility of Islamic fundamentalists towards America & the West is also discussed. Many will find these & other issues contentious but the book provides what many will see as a determined case to answer. Read and digest.

This presentation declaring at the outset that the agenda being pursued throughout the book is a sincere attempt to "stare into God's eternal Word" and to search for "His purpose and plan" in the midst of all "the chaos on the planet".

Central to this "purpose and plan" the book scrutinises the Holy Scriptures as to the significance of the Jewish people, their state of Israel and the magnitude of the situation surrounding Jerusalem.

Amongst a plethora of Biblical references surrounding these pivotal subjects is that of Genesis ch12;v1-3 which relates to a statement shown by Hebrew-Christian Scripture to have been made by God to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (the Jews);- "...I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse...." The reader is then shown the historical, present and future significance of these Scriptures.

The book weighing the actions of the US, and indeed the International community as a whole, in relation to such important questions as foreign policy, the Palestinian/Arab-Israeli conflict and Islam. The study revealing what the Holy Scriptures themselves are quoted as citing in relation to these immense questions with a particular emphasis being made to Biblical prophecy & the "end times". Issues which the study declares as being of vital importance to every individual.

Whether the reader agrees or disagrees with the personal views of the writer, this is a gripping, timely and relevant study which everyone needs to read, irrespective of their nationality or religion. I would also highly recommend the two books mentioned earlier in the review. Their significance has not waned. Thank you for your time.

A-MA-ZING !!! You Gotta give this a READ !!!

If this isn't true, someone has an incredible amount of explaining to do. There is so much history I didn't learn in Jr High or High School that is succinctly laid out in logical and precise order and fashion in this book. If you don't know this material, you don't have a chance of 'getting it' in regards to Israel and the Jews. I hope everyone who expesses an opinion on the events and circumstances of Israel and the PLO has in depth understanding of all the material in this concise volume.

The American Prophecies: honest, gutsy, thought-provoking

Every American should read this book, whether Christian or not. This book reveals how the God of the Bible has especially favored this nation, and given her a unique role in history. Michael Evans is blunt and honest in disclosing what has happened behind the scenes to put America in a place of critical choice: will America support Israel and be blessed, or turn away from God, and be destroyed? This book will open your eyes to what has been going on, and make you eager to stand up and speak out for what is right, and against what is wrong.

The Bible & Prophesy

This book is absolutely fascinating. Anyone who thinks that God is not a God of war is NOT a scholar of the O.T. and has never read the accounts of war commanded by God Almighty. (1Sam 15:1-7; Deut.9:3, 31:3-4) True, God is a God of Peace, but there can be no peace apart from Jesus Christ who said, "I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." Pray for peace in Jerusalem and you pray for Jesus to come and rule and reign. God uses nations as his weapons of war - believers are God's Weapons of Mass Destruction placed in the hands of God and used when he commands.(Is 48:1-4) The Sermon on the Mount says "love your enemmy, and pray for those who persecute you." Are we suppose to love Satan? He is our enemy. Are we suppose to pray for Satan? He persecutes believers. Could it be you have misunderstood the Sermon on the Mount and manipulated the Bible to advance your distorted worldview? Israel is the apple of God's eye. God protects Israel as the apple of his eye. If Israel needs more weapons to defend herself against terrorists, Believers world-wide should and will provide them. This is a holy war - spiritual battle between good & evil. "Any nation that comes against Israel will be defeated before them; they shall come out in one direction and flee in another...The Lord will establish Israel as a holy people to himself...so all the people of the earth shall see you are called by name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of you." (Deut. 28:7-10) I've read the last book in the Bible and Jesus wins the final war where nations come against Israel. Israel is preserved and Christ reigns from Jerusalem - His Holy City. Like it or not, Israel does have a future and a Hope, God said so, over and over and over in the Bible. You can't be a christian if you do not believe that God exists as revealed in The Bible, that the Bible is the ultimate authority, is the infallable word of God and it is accurate in all its teachings. The Hope of Israel is one of those repeated teachings.

The truth remains, whether believed or not

In "The American Prophecies" Mike Evans has taken the Biblical revelation of God, the Creator of the Universe and all that is in it, and given the reader its clear application to the events and potential events of our time. Scoffers, especially those who have not done their homework, have long ignored the undeniable previous fulfillments of other prophecies of The Holy Bible. So too may some miss the logical conclusions put forth here by Mr. Evans because they don't wish to believe they could be true, and erroneously believe that truth is only truth if it is 'believed'. This book is a 'must read' for those who wish to keep pace with the fast-moving events of the present as they relate to Biblical prophecy.

Raves for The American Prophecies

If you haven't read this book, you have a surprise in store - a disturbing surprise to be sure but what else does the word of God cause in the life of an unbeliever except discomfort and rejection....but in the life of a believer--hope for tomorrow. Islam is the enemy and you had better know the word so that you can stand when the enemy attacks. If you cannot stand in your faith, you will not stand at all.

I encourage everyone to read this book--especially Christians.
