Description

"This is far and away the most compelling read I've experienced in a long time. No lie. This is seriously good. It's fresh, entertaining, and thought provoking. The After Days builds an intense bond between the reader and Rachel, which works wonderfully to anchor the story and provide us with eyes, ears and other senses to experience the story. I also love the author's use of language and imagery. And virtually everything that occurs in the story makes sense and feels real ... in a terrifying sort of way." - Kathryn Johnson, bestselling author of forty-one internationally published books and faculty at The Writer's Center "I rate it 5 stars. Siting on the fence between Contemporary Fiction and Dystopian Fantasy, the author's style is crisp, using just the right amount of detail to set the scene. She created well rounded characters that held my attention and helped the story to progress at a steady rate ." --BookishBeyond.com "I was drawn in immediately and swept away by the story. A real page-turner" -Pamela Gates, literary festival organizer "We get enough development to connect with the characters, which is a big thing. I think what I enjoyed the most about this dystopian novel was that it was a realistic approach and situation.I hope there's more to come with these characters in the future!" --jessicamapreviews.com As a writer, I love to explore dystopian events through the perspective of ordinary people. I'm dedicated to giving my readers terrifyingly real, astonishingly tender, gripping stories that combine book club and dystopian fiction. After graduating from Syracuse University with a B.A. in Public Relations and Psychology and backpacking around the globe, I earned a master's degree from the University of Maryland while working and raising two amazing kids. Recently, I participated in the Algonkian Writer Retreat and Novel Workshop. In my day job, I own a consulting firm, The AG Group, through which I help nonprofits and businesses use communication and marketing to showcase what makes them extraordinary. I have more than three decades of experience leading, marketing, and raising funds for nonprofit organizations. I also serve as the executive director of Friends of White Flint, a nonprofit organization working to transform the White Flint/Pike District area into a walkable, transit-oriented, vibrant community. When I'm not obsessing over The After Days, I golf, bake, swing dance, spoil my granddaughter, think about working out, and read. Splitting my time between North Bethesda, MD and Bethany Beach, DE, I love laughing with my friends and family, all of whom have been incredibly supportive of my writing.

Genre-Crossing Page-Turner

Although I have read a fair amount of dystopian fiction, I am not a big fan. Based upon a recommendation, I gave this a try and, Boy am I glad that I did!
Given the book’s premise of survival in a world without electricity, I expected lots of action, plot twists and suspense - but also rather flat and/or 1-dimensional characters. Boy was I wrong!!!
The characters and relationships in this novel are as complex and multilayered as any “literary fiction” novel. a lesser talent might have made the characters’ development follow a predictable transformative path, but Ginsburg understands the complexity of change and her characters are wonderfully believable in their ambiguities, contradictions and fall ability.
This book is ripe for discussion at a book group - between exploring the premise, discussing the characters and relationships to thinking of our own reaction - there are many aspects and interests to approach this book from and I can’t wait for my club to do so!

Enjoyable read

Truthfully, I bought this book because the author is a sorority sister of mine and I wanted to support her. But I love a good disaster book and this didn’t disappoint. This one is different from the usual ‘how do we get everyone down the 30 story skyscraper’ Story. As a 50 something, I would probably sit around as the characters did waiting for the lights to come back on. I have enough liquor in the cabinets to drink like they did lol. After reading this I now feel I need to do a better job keeping my gas grill tank filled though. The book kept my interest up for the most part. A few slow redundant ‘feeling‘ type chapters But overall I really enjoyed it. I’d like to see a sequel about Zach and Rachel’s kids. Did they survive? What was their experience? And also a sequel about what happened after to Rachel and Julie. We left them with a body in the car. How did food get distributed, etc? It won’t be a simple ‘the electricity came back on so life is normal’ now story. Good job on your inaugural book Amy! I hope we see more!

A page turner!

The After Days entertains AND leaves you with dozens of questions to ponder. The unthinkable happens ... what would you do? who would you help? what would you sacrifice? would women act differently than men? could you survive? So many things to discuss with your friends or book club, and to keep considering for weeks to come.
