James Patterson is the world's bestselling author. The creator of Alex Cross, he has produced more enduring fictional heroes than any other novelist alive. He lives in Florida with his family. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From AudioFile Fast-paced crime-solving and baffling new developments abound in this installment of the Womens Murder Club. Musical interludes help set the menacing tone between chapters as well as announce cliff-hangers and foreshadow twists in the story. Carolyn McCormick paces the novel well, speeding up in tense moments and slowing for romantic entanglements. As in all novels by Patterson and company, pieces of the story are masterfully, but slowly, developed so listeners can puzzle over the connections until all is revealed. Information left out of the complete work would help listeners fill in gaps; however, McCormick delivers this abridged installment of the Murder Clubs case in a satisfying open-and-shut style. The 6th Target

I have read all of Patterson's (Women's Club books-in order) up to now and each one just seemed to get better and better. The plots were more exciting, the characters, were had more depth. I don't know, maybe it's because I've read so many at once, but I really wasn't impressed with this plot, or the way Lindsay deals with Joe. I feel like shaking her and telling her to get a grip! The Women's Murder Club in this book doesn't really feel like they're together!!!

ANOTHER EARLIER GOOD READ

Either these books are easy reads or I enjoy them immensely. I'm sure it's the later. Although, I know what happens down the road, it makes sense when they refer back, after reading these.

Once again, hard work, long hours, and determination pay off for Boxer and Conclin when looking into each case. I'm sure working on several cases at a time is very common, but it amazes me the amount of time without sleep, eating junk food, and sometimes lack of ant social life keeps law enforcement going. Each book finds me admiring the work each individual does in real life.

Pleasant read

This is a kind of strange book in that it contains several Separate and unrelated stories that unfold more or less simultaneously. The first is a shooting in which Claire is injured and the subsequent courtroom drama featuring Yuki as the prosecutor; the second is a kidnapping featuring Lyndsay and her new partner in a more police-procedural storyline; and the third is a series of assaults/attempted murders/completed murder at Cindy's apartment building, (also primarily featuring Lyndsay, and also more of a procedural story).

None of these stories is particularly compelling; possibly the fact that the book is divided among them prevented the authors from developing any one of them into a gripping drama of its own, with the kinds of surprising twists and turns that mark a good procedural, courtroom drama, or mystery. As was the case in the last book in the series, character development is minimal, limited primarily to a new wrinkle in Lindsay's love life.

All that said, however, the book was a pleasant read, with the storylines somehow kept unmuddled and the pacing fairly quick. The friendship among the women continues to be highlighted, which continues to make this series a rarity. So a good airplane or beach read - unchallenging but engaging enough to keep boredom at bay for a few hours.

Not So Hot

I have enjoyed Patterson's books in the past, but this one wasn't a favorite. It was extremely disjointed: three small mysteries completely unconnected, with no teamwork used to solve them. The whole book could've been better if it were just focused on the case at Cindy's apartment and threw out the rest. The abduction case was predictable, and the case about the schizophrenic fell flat because it was pretty clear he WAS insane, and we already knew who it was. The book was uncompelling because the book skipped around and couldn't focus. The fact it was split into so many chapters and swapped between first and third person didn't help. Also, small pet peeve, but horrible overuse of overdramatic italics.

The heroine is put into an overwhelming situation when her best friend becomes a victim of a mass shooting incident ...

Another excellently written book in the "Women's Murder Club" series.
The heroine is put into an overwhelming situation when her best friend becomes a victim of a mass shooting incident and then is further complicated by the abduction of a child, and then her personal life becomes a mess when her love relationship takes a dump. It is very interesting the way the writer weaves the story so that while she is at work, she needs to follow what they were taught in the Police Academy, that you can not bring personal emotions and feelings to the job, as it may be very dangerous.
The writer demonstrates the ability of the heroine to remain focused on the situations at hand and successfully complete different and coinciding cases.

Predictable but still Good

Some people are saying that this book is a waste of money. I dont agree. Look, Patterson is a mystery writer, who, in my opinion has revolutionized the mystery and suspense genres. But at the same time, he writes a very formulaic story. I dont fault him for that. I dont pick up a James Patterson novel and expect to read The Tale of Two Cities or that level of ficiton. That being said, Patterson is a very good writer. However, my one critique would be that I can tell more than one person wrote this book because the voice does seem to change here and there.

Still a Patterson Fan

I know this book gets mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it about as much as most of his previous work. Patterson proves he still has what it takes. I read this book in record time although I had to stay up rather late to do so.
Next on my list is "7th Heaven". My Kindle is down and out for now, so I'll have to wait until it's fixed or replaced. I may have to buy the paperback version to tide me over.
