Description

About the Author Marius Gabriel served his author apprenticeship as a student at Newcastle University, where, to finance his postgraduate research, he wrote thirty-three Mills & Boon romances under a pseudonym. His identity as a man had to be kept secret until he turned to longer fiction under his own name. Gabriel is the author of eight sagas and historical novels, including the bestsellers The Mask of Time , The Original Sin and The Seventh Moon , and was once accused by Cosmopolitan magazine of ‘keeping you reading while your dinner burns’. He very seldom burns his own, however, being an enthusiastic cook, as well as an artist and a musician. Born in South Africa in 1954, he has lived and worked in many countries, and now divides his time between London and Cairo. He has three grown-up children.

Marius Gabriel satisfies

In this 2nd book in the series, the author has me knowing each character intimately. Separated by geography and the revulsion of World War II, Isobel, Chiara and Felicity must learn to confront a multitude of life’s challenges. The innate connection known as the sisterhood bond, is strained amid the three Radcliffe sisters, who are alienated by life and love, and is about to boil over into all-out struggle to stay alive.
The detailed descriptions of the cities and the war jumped off the pages and held me firmly in the horror, the death, the violence and the resulting tears. To balance that out, considerable passion and sizzle heat up the pages. Three sisters experiencing their separate lusts and desires.

This one has it all!

The Saga of the beautiful Redcliffe sisters continues.

I received this book via ARC from Netgalley. Thank you to Netgalley.

I read the preceeding novel and liked it very much. (I have left a review).

This time the author outdoes himself. This one's a scorcher! It has all the details to provide a page turning read. Love, sex, intrigue with a bit of pathos thrown in!

The year is 1942, and the sisters have moved on. Chiara was betrayed by the man she loves and receives an unexpected farewell gift from him. Isobel, the beautiful older sister gets it into her head that she is going to run for political office, and Felicity, the youngest, a former nun, sheds her innocence and blossoms, having the time of her life. Their stories intertwine against the backdrop of World War II and the blitz.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It proved to be racier than the first, but in a way that added to the storyline. I love historical novels that educate me about actual events and this novel did not disappoint. I hope that there will be a continuation of the Redcliffe sisters saga, but I get the feeling that the author was tidying up all the loose ends at the end of the book. I do hope there is more to come though!
