Surrender to Me (A Wicked Lovers Novel)

I was really disappointed in this book. After reading the excerpt on Shayla's website I was looking forward to this story for months. It fell flat for me and I thought it was kind of boring and slow. It didn't help that I really didn't like Kata. I got tired really quick of her constantly whining about not wanting to be controlled. She was a bit too hard for me. I don't mind a strong woman but she was just annoying. The love scenes I thought were far from what Shayla can do, and I thought they were rushed with not much thought put behind them. The last two books in this series have been complete misses for me which is a shame because Shayla hit the first two out of the ballpark.

Hunter is a Navy seal who is on leave because of an injured shoulder. Kata is a parole officer who is in Vegas for her birthday. Little does she know her friend Ben has a surprise for her. He has invited Hunter to join them for a night to fulfill Kata's fantasies. Well...lets just say the chemistry between Hunter and Kata is explosive and Hunter realizes right away that she is the one for him. Except there is one slight problem. Hunter is a hardcore Don and Kata doesn't submit, ever. Her family background prevents her from willingly giving up control even though her body is screaming for her to do so. After their night in Vegas Kata leaves Hunter to head home only to be targeted by an assassin. With Kata's life at risk and Hunter's leave coming to an end they only have a few short days to be together. With the help of characters from the past 3 books Hunter must find the killer and convince Kata that he is who she needs to be happy.

This book was amazing. Ms Black did it again. Hunter was hardcore and very intense while Kata was stubborn and very independent. The story line was compelling and it definitely took a turn at the end that will surprise you. The sex was extremely hot and totally BDSM. You could feel the emotion involved. Ms Black had me sweating one minute and wiping tears the next. Absolutely amazing story that left me wanting more. It was definitely great to see past characters again and also get introduced to new people in the Wicked Lovers world. I am excited for Tyler's story and also very excited for Logan's story. Definitely a recommended read!!!!

Wicked Lovers is one of my most favorite erotic romance series ever. Shayla Black never ceases to amaze me with her writing ability. She draws you right in from the beginning and doesn't let you go. I always love the emotional roller coaster we ride with her books. This book we get a closer look at Hunter Edgington, and boy is he intense! I love that he never backs away from what he is and that he makes no apologies for what he wants regardless of what he has to do to get it. We also get to see the loyal, protective and tender side of him which I loved and shed some tears over. Kata rolls on the pages with a bang right from the start. She's such a great heroine. I love my gals strong and kick a**.. well she definitely gives a punch and never disappoints. We get to see her work through her problems and overcome what she fears most.. the surrender that is so sweet. I love that we got treated to other series characters with Tyler, Jack and Morgan, Luc, Deke and Kimber, Colonel and Logan making appearances. I have to say Kimber has really matured in this book, she's kicking butt and taking numbers.. love it! Jack is so awesome he just takes over when he arrives. That's why I love him..sexy Cajun. Tyler pulls at our heart with his unresolved issues. Shayla sets up Logan's problems in this book. We get a tease of back story. All I have to say is, if you have not read this series, buy it immediately. Every book packs a punch of hot sex and incredible characters that you grow attached to. I read other books by this author that were much better. I couldn't get into this story or the characters.

I love this book! It was so hot. I loved Hunter and Kata. They were a perfect couple. The emotional depth between the two is touching. The Wicked Lovers series is one of my favorites, and this is a great addition to it.

**********THE BACKGROUND*************

Kata is a submissive who doesn't know it and Hunter is a Dom trying to get her to see the truth about herself. They meet when Hunter's Navy SEAL buddy sets up a menege in Vegas as a birthday gift for Kata. There is instant chemistry between Hunter and Kata, and while the menege doesn't happen, they have such an intense sexual experience that it literally scares Kata to run away and get drunk. Yadda, yadda, yadda, they end up married

********THE CONFLICT************

Within hours of returning home, Kata is almost killed and Hunter sends Deke, Tyler, and Jack (from precursor books Wicked Ties, Decadent, and Delicious)to the rescue.

Let me just interject here that it was a huge pleasure for me to see the interaction between Morgan and Jack (our hero and heroine from Wicked Ties). I seriously love it whenever they show up in one of these sequel books.

Anyway, since Kata's life is obviously in danger, she has no choice but to accept Hunter's protection. Their time alone together allows them to explore the dynamics of their relationship, and something which Kata fights him on every step of the way. She is not able to handle the lifestyle he wants and she serves him with divorce papers.

************THE CONCLUSION**********

In the end, their coming together (and how they ended up coming together)was a thing of beauty and brought tears to my eyes. Superbly written. Apart from Jack and Morgan, Hunter and Kata have to be my favorite couple from the Wicked Lovers series by Ms. Black. I wait with bated breath for Brandon's, Logan's and Tyler's story. I wonder if we might also get to see Joaquin's story. My interest was certainly peaked to know more about him.

All in all, a great book. Steamy sex scenes and likeable characters. I highly recommend.

Kata is celebrating her twenty-fifth birthday in Las Vegas with friends and family when her neighbor Ben decides to fulfill her fantasy of ménage for a birthday present. He brings in Hunter, a Navy Seal who is home on leave while recovering from a wound. When Ben gets too drunk to perform, her ménage turns into just her and Hunter. During their sexual encounter Kata learns that Hunter is a Dom and is looking for the perfect submissive and he believes he's found it in Kata. The problem is the last thing Kata wants is to be submissive to any man.

Kata's birthday fling turns into something she never expected when she realizes that after a drunken binge she married Hunter. The only thing she can think of is divorce, but when she is attacked, the only person that she can trust to keep her safe is Hunter. It's easy for Kata to trust Hunter to keep her safe, but trusting him with her body and soul is a whole other matter.

While I was reading SURRENDER TO ME, two of my on-line friends were reading it as well. One of them hated it, the other loved it. I am somewhere in between. I've noticed that Ms. Black's writing inspires that type of response in people, you either love her or you don't, but she inspires an intense reaction from you.

I personally became aware of Ms. Black when I read an anthology she was in and found that I liked her story better than the author who I picked up the book for, so I was eager to get my hands on SURRENDER TO ME and see how I'd like a full length novel by her.

SURRENDER TO ME is a BDSM novel. One of my pet peeves in these types of romances is that the heroine often appears as a doormat. Right off, I was pleased that Kata, the heroine of SURRENDER TO ME was such a strong character. Ms. Black did an excellent job of exploring why Kata had such problems with submission and I totally understood her hesitation and fears. I loved how Kata was able to work through her deep seated fears and I especially loved that the solution of her being able to work through them was not all resolved in sexual manner like most BDSM novels that I read. I really, really, really liked that. Because of the way Kata was able to work through her issues, in the end, I was able to buy into Kata and Hunter being able to sustain a lasting relationship beyond the end of the story.

Hunter was also a person I was able to understand. Hunter's backstory was woven in brilliantly which made me understand what made him a Dom. While I understand his motivations, Hunter did have some umm . . . jerk tendencies. I actually had to put the book down for a while because Hunter's domineering Alpha tendencies pissed me off so much it took me awhile to forgive him. He angered me for the first half of the novel. The first being that Hunter meets Kata at her twenty-fifth birthday party in Las Vegas and when she is drunk she says let's get married (they just met a couple hours before) and he (he doesn't drink and was sober) agreed. I lost a lot of respect for Hunter there and I didn't forgive him until near the end of the book where he finally matures and makes a self-sacrifice.

My issues with Hunter were the only thing that bothered me with SURRENDER TO ME. I enjoyed everything else about SURRENDER TO ME, especially the suspense side plot. I loved the suspense and how it was woven into the story. I was equally surprised to discover that it took a turn that I wasn't expecting, which doesn't always happen as I'm pretty good at figuring out suspense plots.

Overall, I really enjoyed SURRENDER TO ME and now, I'm curious to delve into Ms. Black's backlist.

Hunter was an ultra alpha male and I loved him! The verbal and sexual interactions between him and Kata were explosive. Great book.

This was a really good book. Hunter Edgington, who is the older brother of Kimber from book two in this series. Accepts a request from his friend Ben to make Katalina Munoz fantasy come true for her birthday she wants a threesome. Hunter is a big hot as hell navy seal who takes one look at Kata and he knows that he wants her. Hunter is also a Dom and he wants Kata to submit to him, but their is no problem Kata is not willing to submit to any man. After years of watching her mother get brow beaten by her husband Gordon she is not willing to give a man that much control over her. Hunter knows that he is on borrowed time he has to report back to the Seals in a week. When someone tries to kill Kata Hunter will do anything in his power to protect her. This was another good book in this series. When Kata's mother is sick Hunter jumps into action getting her away from her husband Gordon and when Gordon insults Kata Hunter puts him in his place. All of the friends in this series once again come together to help Hunter keep Kata safe. This is a really good series.

This was a steamy novel. Parts weren't to my liking, but the overall story was really good. I did love how the other Shayla Black characters make an appearance tying them together.
