Supernaturally (Paranormalcy, 2)

I loved the first book in this series, Paranormalcy, especially because of how delightfully sassy Evie is, but in this book there were things that annoyed me about her character. I realize in the first book she has less power because she has lived a pretty sheltered life, and in this book I think I expected her to have grown a little more, learned more from her experiences. Yet in this book she is disappointingly indulgent and immature, and makes some pretty silly mistakes more than once. Her boyfriend, Lend is such a nice guy and always there for her, that her treatment of him is pretty horrendous (even if Lend feels like he can tell her what to do sometimes) and then there is Jack. His inclusion into the story is very important, but from the beginning I found him really annoying. He's so smug and if it was backed up with good reasons for him to be so conceited I might not have found him so intolerable, but doing back flips and opening fairy doors is not that amazing. And yet, in almost all of Evie's encounters with Jack, he forces her to do something she doesn't want to do, or puts her in a bad position, and Evie forgets her anger quickly because he's a lonely boy. So annoying!! Almost every decision Evie made, I was thinking 'Don't do it! Why are you doing this?' because it was clear to me from her past experiences that it wasn't going to go well. She hates faeries, and they are trying to kill her (possibly) and yet she's okay for a staycation in the faeries realms? Ugh.

While there is a mystery brewing in the plot, the story mostly revolves around Evie's love life and work life, and I felt like very little actually goes on in this story. It doesn't advance too much, although there are some interesting revelations made about Evie's past and the faerie realm. The world-building is great still - I love the explanation and introduction of new paranormal creatures. This book really seemed like a set-up for the last in the series, but I really hope Evie gets more sense knocked into her, so I can enjoy her witty narrative voice again.

Well, Evie's back. Though she's not the 2.0 I was expecting. Sure, she's still snarky and funny but she almost seems a little... watered down? And Lend? Well, he, too, is a bit flat in this installment.

Though the story is satisfying and ties in well with its predecessor, there's a lack of chemistry which can't be overlooked. The balance is also askew as Evie lacks some of her former ferocity. As sophomore novels go, however, it's still a solid read and, having read the third book as well, is well worth the investment.

Book came quickly and was in great condition.

I give this 3.5 stars. Not going to lie did not care for this one as much as the first. Evie is someone you want to care for but she just is not getting it, she should be trying to figure out what she can do since she knows who she is now...but all she can do is get herself into trouble and think about her boyfriend whom each fell in love with like instantly. I still did not get the explanation of how she came about maybe it was just me but I was confused. This seem to go slower then the first book and I kept having to put down because of a 3yr old needing grandma's attention and just didn't care to pick back up really. I did finish and have last book to go so I can see if Evie grows some or just stays clueless until the end.. She loves it

I'm giving this 4 1/2 stars. With this book I laughed, I cried, I got mad at Jack when I found out what a jerk he was to Evie but then on the side of the coin, who could blame him? He wanted revenge. I liked Rethink a lot more and Lend:: well he just jumped to the top 10 of great Paranormal boyfriends.

It's extremely rare to find a second installment better than the first. Usually, they pale in comparison, or at most are equally great. However, Supernaturally blew up these stigmas and then ran the remnants over with a steam roller. I would have never thought that I would have liked Supernaturally better than Paranormalcy. But, here I am telling you just that!

Now that Evie is living the life of a normal teenage girl, she finds that the "normal" life isn't all that it's cracked up to be. She goes to school, works at the diner, and gets to hangout with Lend on the weekends. Tasey, her trusty sidekick has now even taken up residence in her sock drawer. So, when she gets the chance to get a taste of the paranormal butt-kicking action she longs for, she accepts.

Between school, extracurriculars of the paranormal nature, and her sassy attitude, Evie has all the makings to be the next Buffy! In Supernaturally, she even gets her own sidekick! Jack is a handful though. He reminded me of a kid on a sugar high throughout the entire book! I can't forget about Lend! He was just his awesome amazing self. No complaints there!

Supernaturally exceeded my expectations, and even threw me for a loop! Just when I thought I knew what was going on, somehow the story made a 180. When this happened, all I could think was "what the bleep?" But, this turn of events made the book that much better! I really enjoyed the ride it took me on! It's a bleep of a good book!

Gift for a grandchild who has enjoyed the series immensely.

I haven't been able to finish this book but it so far didn't meet my expectation. I really did like the start of it and the first book in the series but it isn't catching my interest as strongly as the first book. I am hoping that when I do finish this book that it will change my opinion and make me crave the third installment.

Evie is finally free from IPCA and is starting at a normal life. Raquel calls her, though, and tells her that IPCA is in trouble and she is the only fix. Then, she meets Jack, who has the ability only a faerie should have. She learns a lot from him and they start to become friends. Evie tried to keep it a secret, because she didn't want to upset Lend. What Evie doesn't know is she was created for one purpose, to open gates. Will she be safe for long? How will Evie react to finding this out?

I liked this book as much as I liked the first book. It creates more suspense and you would never guess who is putting Evie in the most danger. I love the love that is happening throughout the book, both romance and friendship. I hope to read the third book soon. I wish I could interview the author and ask her questions.
