Great beginner book for brush tip pens

Of all the lettering books I have gotten, this one is my favorite for a beginner using brush tip pens! There are a few material recommendations at the beginning of the book, lots of easily traceable alphabets and a few extra tips/tricks you can try in the back of the book. I recommend getting tracing paper along with this book so you can continuously practice writing over the alphabets, as there is really only one practice page for each alphabet.

Off to a good start

This book has lots of modern, useable Alphabets to copy, trace, and learn. The instructions are brief and direct. Would like a little bit more explanation on how to string the letters together to make words. Overall, a good book.

A great help with my lettering.

I usually don't like to buy books online because I can't look through it. I'm never sure if it's what I'm looking for. This was a pleasant surprise! It's the first such book that actually has some instructions. Plenty of practice space. I'm very happy I bought it.

Fun book if you're looking for different fonts/styles to practice

Bought as a gift for a friend and almost kept it myself. The book provides several alphabets in different styles for the reader to practice tracing. It even comes with some tracing paper to practice with. I might end up buying myself a copy.

Super simple! Still struggling to find my style. This has helped me to get closer to choosing. Twenty different Alphabet styles both uppercase and lowercase to practice. There is a page for flourishes and project ideas at end of book

Misleading Cover, Vague Guidelines

I purchased this book because I wanted to practice writing like the style featured on the cover - particularly with the "practice sheet" featured on the cover.

Turns out... This font is not one of the 20 featured in the book, and the practice sheets do not look anything like those on the cover.

On the plus side, the book does feature a few useful tips on brush stroke technique and choosing supplies, including four types of a brushes/nibs. Also, there are a few pieces of tracing paper inserted into the back!

It's confusing that nowhere does the book provide specific guidance on which types of nibs/brushes to use for each of the 20 fonts (although somewhere earlier it mentions that you'll definitely want to use specific pens for specific fonts...).

Overall, if you are looking for a legitimate learning resource, there are far better options out there. This book is simply too simple.

Great value, best hand lettering book I’ve tried so far

This book is the best hand lettering book I’ve tried so far. It starts with 21 pages of typical intro to paper, materials and hand lettering basics and a gallery of example layouts/projects. Then it gets into the pages with the 20 different styles/alphabets. Each style Includes suggested uses, a page each of traceable letters for the upper and lower case, and a page each showing the directions and order of the strokes for the upper and lower case. Intermingled in these pages are 4 exercises on turning non-serif letters into serif, mixing and matching styles, adding flourishes, and creating your own alphabet. This is followed by 4 removable pages of lettering art. The book wraps up with detailed instructions for 5 projects, lined practice pages and vellum paper for tracing.

A nice, but glorified tracing book

This book is definitely a reminder that more is not always better. It's definitely a good book for inspiration, but there's just so many styles and not nearly enough guidelines that I can't really recommend it. I suppose if you want a style for everything, then it's a good choice, but really, how often are you going to use styles 19 or 20, which have so much flourish they're partially illegible.

I wavered b/t 3 and 4 starts, but settled on 3 because I really do think this book could've been 10-15 good styles, but included more practicing and that would've improved it immensely. It does some nice serif fonts though which few books have so I do commend it for that.
