Despite a 2,000 year history the City never had an urban masterplan. Londontown is an agglomeration of medieval villages which form the heart of the metropolis we all love. Turn a corner and new worlds unfold.
  • London is unique in many ways. It is the only city to boast an entire street designated for men's fashion needs:
  • Jermyn Street
  • in St James's. Discerning gents buy their fragrances at
  • Geo F Trumper,
  • dine at
  • Wilton's,
  • get their bespoke shirts at
  • Turnbull & Asser,

  • John Lobb
  • and accessories at
  • Dunhill.
  • After window shopping, cut through Piccadilly Arcade for High Tea and cuke sandwiches at
  • Fortnum & Mason's 4th floor Diamond Jubilee Salon.
  • One of the great pleasures of being here is hearing the English language flexed. In theatres and on the street where locals take the time to chat about any subject. British cheer remains the lingua franca despite Brexit.
  • Among our favorite walks: from The Mile Square City, now the Financial Centre, to St Paul's crossing Millennium Bridge to Tate Modern with grand views back over the Thames. Knightsbridge and Belgravia are among the toniest neighborhoods. Start at Harrods, the mother of all department stores, to see the latest fashions and taste from the mind-boggling selections of hams on the ground floor, then walk off the calories in Hyde Park with a visit to Serpentine Gallery for cutting edge art and design. Or start the day sipping cappuccino at the London Review of Books store on Bury Pl, then take the 55 bus from Bloomsbury to the Sunday Flower Market on Columbia Rd in East London with lunch at Rochelle Canteen on Arnold Circus. Stroll down Brick Lane to check out the latest East End fashions. Whatever excursions you plan our laminated pocket sized map will make you travel with confidence and help create lasting memories.

Amazing and compact

I just got back from London and this map, which fits neatly in my hand, made the journey much easier and navigable.I never thought I'd go back to printed maps but London is HUGE and it's hard to get perspective from a Google map. Plus, this one is laminated so it doesn't crumble in my bag. Impressive to see how much info the designer has packed into it -- yet it's still readable. It's got the entire public transportation system, some of the key highlights and tourist attractions, and it spans from Kensington to The City and beyond. Amazing and compact. I don't think I'll return without it. Joe Dolce

Don't go without this map!

We still need real maps -the electronic ones show too little of a longer trip, get confused, run out of battery life, can't be read in bright sun. We still need real maps, but they are facing stiff competition, so they have to be good: easily folded and re-folded, water-proof, large enough to read on the march and easy to read in poor or too much light. Not many qualify. But the vanDam StreetSmart London is all of the above, and we wish we'd had it with us the last time we got lost (in a taxi!) in London. From now on, we won't leave home for London without this map!

So happy it is water proof!

I found this really helpful walking around London as it covered the main down town area. The subway map was helpful as well. It rained a lot while I was there making the plastic lamination over the map critical to be able to use it the whole time. After carrying and using it for 5 days, it still looks like new. I missed having a broader perspective to get trains to outlying areas, but those were easy to look up on line before I went or get help in the train station. But most of my touring was downtown and easily covered by the map. I still have more to see for next time and will happily use the same map then.

Great map

I am a happy customer. Love this map. I used to get Streetwise laminated maps, but this one is better. Both are accurate, but this is easier to use, names are more visible, maybe because of the fonts they use. I read the reviews before buying this one and almost decided against it because someone mentioned that the letters are too small and not suitable for a person using reading glasses. I have to strongly disagree. I use reading glasses and I have no problems with the size of the letters. In fact, after comparing Streetwise and this one (StreetSmart) I find this one a lot better.

A Great Map, If I could see it!

This map of London is chocobloc full of detail—all the important points of interest, Museums, Theatres, Statues in the Parks. Heavens! It even has my hotel on it! It's also laminated.

Unfortunately, it is so minuscule, that I'd have to walk around with a magnifying glass like Sherlock Holmes to read it! I do think that they could have made it a tad larger—a couple of inches on all sides—so that the type—and the *streets*—would be legible!

To put a spin on it, perhaps it was intended for the under-40's crowd. I suspect, however, it was made small to save a few pennies.

I'd rather save my eyesight!

Its utility is pretty good through use so far

Its utility is pretty good through use so far. It has the very small street where I'm staying in St. James's. This map is actually a set of several different maps of parts of London, not one unified map. So far I have used it more than the pop-up map.

Great Map

nice size, crisply printed, old eyes, so need a magnifier, but that's my problem and not the map's. It will be well used on my upcoming trip. Like the laminate so I can hilight a a route and then wipe it later. Recommend.

Handy!

I used sharpie to mark all of the places we were visiting during our stay in London. It was so helpful to visualize where we were. We carried it with us and pulled it out frequently (it was more helpful that gps on the phone sonetimes) It's laminated, so it withstood the drizzly London weather.
(And Every time we pulled it out, someone would ask us if we needed help finding something.) Nicest people!!

Don't go to London without one of these!

This is a handy tool to have when you are in London. My daughter and I used it all the time while we were there. I used an erasable felt tip pen to circle the places we wanted to visit, and changed the markings as our plans evolved. The color coded map for the Tube system was immensely helpful, as well. While we also used the GPS on our phones to tell us specific directions, the map gave us our bearings and allowed us to plan out our day by having an overall, bird-eye-view of the city. I like that it's not huge and unwieldy like a paper map; you can easily open it up at your table in the restaurant and still have room for your food. The images and street names are big enough to clearly see on the map, though you may need your cheaters to read the street names on the street index. I highly recommend having one of these for your next visit to London.

Very Detailed

It is extremely detailed - even had the small hotel I was going to stay at on it plus Underground and rail stations clearly marked - very easy to read.
