Description

“Pyle’s signature pink-and-blue comic panels expand to full-page spreads in this clever ode to cats...school-aged children will find it simultaneously absurd and hilarious. A great choice for young readers beginning to explore graphic novels, this is an essential purchase, ready to tickle children and adults alike.” — School Library Journal (starred review) "The hyperliteral phrases are sure to provoke readers’ laughter…kids might just hone observational skills too [and] surprise their adults with new vocabulary; families who read it together may be inspired to make up their own.xa0Don’t be a stranger to this one." — Kirkus Reviews “Pyle’s tidy comics style and limited color palette centers the deadpan vocabulary as much as the art, and humor directed at categorizing concepts and building observational skills is an added bonus for young readers. Back matter includes a visual vocabulary aid.” — Publishers Weekly “Done in the style of his humorous cartoons on social media, Mr. Pyle conjures an alien parent and child with classic sci-fi bald heads and huge eyes. The speech of these beings has a kind of courtly impartiality that makes it extremely funny.” — Wall Street Journal Nathan W. Pyle is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of S trange Planet, Stranger Planet, NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette , and 99 Stories I Could Tell . He is a former staff writer and illustrator for BuzzFeed. He is based in New York City but travels the country speaking about creativity and storytelling.

Not what I expected but still a delight

OK - admittedly, it's not what I expected. I had hoped for a whole book of cartoons regarding the vibrating creature. It's actually a kids picture book.

That being said, I *still* absolutely love it - made me laugh out loud several times.

Kind of sad it was just a 5 minute read.

Since I don't have my own young beings, I shall read it to my four vibrating creatures and the cohabitant of my domicile.

I didn't know it was a children's book when I ordered it, but didn't care when I received it.

Ok, so I pre-ordered the book not knowing that it was a children's picture book. After seeing more posts from the author on social media I realized that it was, but figured I'd just give it to a co-worker who has a young kid. Got it in the mail today, and although I'm a grown man I can't help but love it, and decided that I would keep this copy and order another for my co-worker.

Absolutely adorable children's book!

I am a big fan of Nathan Pyle's cartoons. My daughter is 5 1/2 years old and when I saw that he was putting out a children's book, I was so excited! We just read it for the first time, and she LOVED it. The "strange" wording was just enough of a puzzle for her to figure out without getting frustrated and she thought it was hilarious. She loves the beings and the cat. As a parent who reads many, many books at bedtime, I felt that the story was the exact right length for a good young children's book - long enough to have a plot, short enough to keep attention.
I'm sad to see that people are giving such poor reviews based on their pre-conceived expectations, and not based on the quality of the book itself, which is an excellent children's book.

Fun book for the family

I was excited to hear the Author was writing a picture book. So I ordered it for my neice and nephew. They were delighted with the book. The story was cute and fun. As soon as my sister finished reading it they wanted to hear it again. I'll definitely buy the next picture book for them too.

Adorable

I love the original Strange Planets so as I soon as I saw they were doing a book about cats, I had to get it. This one is actually geared towards children (ages 4-8) so it definitively reads different than the other ones. I didn't realize that when I got it so I'll likely donate it, but still very cute and a great gift for children who like cats or parents trying to introduce kids to cats.

Worth the pre-order!

I rarely review anything on Amazon, and pre-order something with even less frequency. But this was so worth it. You don't even have to be familiar with "Strange Planet" to appreciate all the hilarious euphemisms. It's a fun, quick read. I can't wait to share it with my 7yo and 5yo girls, who love both vibrating creatures and a good bedtime story. 😊

Fun Way to Introduce the Scientific Method

3.5 stars

I love the Strange Planet comics and had to check out this picture book. A parent and their child spend the day following their cat around the house. They observe it’s movements, record their observations, and then try to mimic it. Would be great if there was more depth to the story. However, this book would be a fun way to get young kids excited about learning the scientific method or studying animals.

Fans of the Strange Planet comic will enjoy reading this with their kids. Ages 4-8.

A Captivating Creature and Book!

This is a children's book I purchased for myself. I love Nathan W. Pyle's art, his sense of humor, and the outlook and understandings he gives to his characters. This is a fun book and I loved the illustration size.

Disappointment

I am really disappointed because it's not what I expected. I was under the impression it would be another collection of cartoons and the focus would be the vibrating creature, I'm 98% positive that when I pre-ordered this it did not have a full description indicating it was a kid's book. If it had, I would not have purchased. As a book for young kids, I think it is minimally entertaining at best. Not happy.

A childrens book, and not a great one

Couple of illustrations. Minimal writing. Not something any child I have ever met would find entertaining. I returned it.
