Should Have Been Combined With Surge

I am a teacher and like to read the books that my students are interested in so that I can be knowledgeable enough to discuss the books with them. Storm Runners was not my first Roland Smith book, so I expected the same great writing and suspense that I found in Cryptid Hunters. The suspense and plot were well laid out and kept my full attention, but the abrupt ending of this short novel was a huge disappointment. After reading the sequel, Surge, I felt that the two books could easily have been combined into one book, which would have made more sense and not required me to buy two very small books. If you put the two Storm Runners books together they are still not as thick as the Cryptid Hunters book. So, I spent $11.98 for two books that are smaller than one I spent $6.99 for. Not sure if this was a marketing strategy or the publisher just wanted more money, but in my opinion, this was not the best way to present the story.

here is no ending to this story, just a dozen things left up in the air!

THe story was interesting and definitelyk geared to a young (5th grade) audience. The three stars were gived because there was no warning that it would NOT END in any satisfactory way. There were so many things left up in the air. I know it is first of a series of several but I always hated soap operas for the same reason. At least give some semblance of resolution at the end of a book. If you like reading series of books, it would likely be enjoyable tor most.

Good Book

Enjoyed the book. I would recommend to anyone who likes to read. I teach middle school so I tend to read a lot of these kinds of books. Worth your time!

Ends in the middle of the story

This book would be good for tweens but you will definitely have to buy the second book to see how it ends. It literally just stops in the middle of the story.

Review from 5th grade class spoiler- terrible book

We are a class of 23 fifth grade students who just finished reading Stormrunners. We give it a half a star for the following reasons. One reason is because the book was so unrealistic. For example, the 6th graders that were probably 5 foot 2 were walking through a flood probably as tall as a stop sign. Another reason we didn’t like it is the author brings in so many unneeded characters, events, and places. For example, how they introduce reporters that are unnecessary and even animals. The book was very unrealistic because how does a 6th grader not drown from pulling a dead adult man out of a bus at the bottom of a river or lake (we are not sure, another example of confusion). Another example is that 6th graders were walking miles in a hurricane without falling over, getting hit by debris, and being able to have full conversations with each other. A final reason we don’t like this is that the author didn’t seem to do much research about hurricanes or how 6th graders talk to each other. For these reasons we do not recommend this book.

Sincerely,
Ms. Roti’s 5th grade class

[Too] Easy of a Read for 14 Year Old

My daughter is interested in storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and so on. She is 14 so we knew this book would be an easy read for her... and it was... She really enjoyed the book. We both didn't like that the chapters were so short.

Blah

The story was really good but the ending was terrible. There needed to be some closure. The author made it so you have to buy the second book in order to find out what happens to the kids.
