He was a member of the Junior National Ski Team and the US Ski Team Talent Squad; in 1973, he was NCAA Division Downhill Champion. Bruce’s professional avalanche experience began in 1977 when he did avalanche control for Bridger Bowl Ski Area. Excellent and easy to read

This is a great book that should be read by all who venture into snowy mountains. My only complaint with it is his reference to risk homeostasis like it is a fact when it is merely a poorly supported hypothesis with numerous studies and examples that make it very nearly disproved, if not completely so. Otherwise it is quite informative and I learned much from it, making it a solid 5 stars.

Great for snow safety

I bought this for my husband and he was only able to read a few pages before going snowmobiling one day. He said that even those few pages made him more cautious and aware.

Probably one of the two best books in the subject.

Well organized and good for quick reference. Not a substitute for a full Avi clinic, but everyone who skis or travels in the backcountry should have this book.

Indespensible

This book is an absolute necessity for anybody recreating in avalanche terrain. It was recommended to me by a friend, who lent me the book. A few chapters in, I purchased my own copy. I will be rereading/referencing this book for the rest of my life.
The writing is good, entertaining, and packed with knowledge. The diagrams and photos are well-laid-out and descriptive.
