Description

From Publishers Weekly Starred Review. Life in L.A.'s fast lane, from Sherman Oaks' porn studios to swank Beverly Hills salons, sets the pace for Halliday's debut novel, the first installment in a stylish High Heels mystery series. When shoe designer Maddie Springer finds her boyfriend, Richard, has gone missing, along with $20 million of his company's funds, she's determined to track him down—partly because she's certain he's innocent, but mostly because her period is late. Maddie persuades her best friend, Dana, to be her partner in crime solving, and it isn't long before they stumble on the body of Richard's boss—just moments after he's been shot dead. Enter sexy LAPD detective Jack Ramirez, who just wants Maddie to "go home and let him handle this," which, of course, isn't going to happen. The only clues to the murder are two blond hairs and the imprint of a stiletto heel, pointing to a female killer; topping the suspect list is receptionist and designer fashion junkie Jasmine, followed by porn-star Bunny, who's up to her implants in debt. The nonstop action runs the gambit from faulty EPTs to wild rides on L.A.'s freeways to wedding plans gone awry, all of which are guaranteed to keep chick lit and mystery fans happy. (Aug.) Surprisingly Good

This book was part chick-lit, part mystery, and a lot of fun. Maddie Springer, an L.A. shoe designer runs into trouble with the law when her boyfriend Richard Howe goes missing. The law happens to be a sexy cop, Jack Ramirez, who works with Maddie to find Richard and uncover an embezzling plot. Jack and Maddie have some serious chemistry together, and they trapse all around LA looking for clues to solve a mystery. The secondary characters were a lot of fun too, especially Maddie's friend Dana and her stepfather Ralph. The book was super cute and included a lot of modern references and fun escapades. I liked the book because it didn't focus too much on the mystery - the romance shared an equal part of the book. Maddie seems like a very likeable person and the type of girl you'd be friends with. The only drawback was all the references to the LA freeways, exits, streets, etc. As an LA native I found myself traveling the freeway with Maddie and Jack and finding errors in the freeway connections. For instance, the author says they took the 110 south through downtown, Compton and Watts; but, the 110 doesn't pass through Watts... just one of a few freeway things I noted. But that's minor, and the book was impressive overall. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Adult Nancy Drew but in Heels\Just the Right amount of silly

I am not one for romance novels but I decided to try one just for fun and being cheap I needed it to be free. I came across this title and thought its free and its has the words spy and heels in the title it will be a cheap thrill.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed the book and started to care what happened to the different characters. Maddie Springer is 29 year old fashion lover who designed children shoes for a living and has an amazing lawyer boyfriend who is a life size Ken doll. Everything is heading in the right direction until one day he turns up missing, 20 million dollars have disappeared and Maddie thinks she is pregnant. The mystery starts off with Maddie trying to figure out what happened to her boyfriend only to stumble upon a murder scene right out of the movies but on the positive there is a tall dark and deadly detective. Maddie try's to prove her boyfriend was framed but at the same time planning her mothers wedding, trying to find time for her oversexed best friend, a pregnancy test and the handsome detective who she can't seem to stop following. Maddie and her best friend play dress up when they go to "investigate" and I have to admit if I was found in a saturation like this I would probable dress up like the Charlies Angles too. There is really no "sex scenes" in the book but sex is mention quite offend and there is a little language in the book but being a mystery\romance novel that is to be expected. The humor in the book revolves around mani\pedi, fashion, movies, and wedding festivities. So if someone has little interest for fashion they will find it boring and even vain but that is what makes the book a fun easy read for those long winter nights or days by the pool in the summer. There were several errors but nothing that bothered me because it was such an easy and fun read.
The book is full of goofy scenes, non stop talk about fashion, food, girly girls wearing stilettos, dresses up and no stop dreaming of the sexy detective.
Spying in High Heels is full of laughs, who done it, romance, and best why to describe it would be an adult version of Nancy Drew but with a crazy Mom.
Yes I bough the next book in the series because sometimes you just need something silly and fun to read.
