About the Author E.E. Holmes is a writer, teacher, and actor living near Boston, MA with her husband, two children, and small, but surprisingly loud dog. When not writing, she enjoys performing, watching unhealthy amounts of British television, and reading with her daughter. She has written several one-act plays, but Spirit Legacy is her first novel. Features & Highlights

  • "The Gateway is open..."
  • These cryptic words wake college student Jess Ballard from a terrifying dream into an even more terrifying reality.
  • Jess' life has never been what anyone would call easy; doing damage control in the wake of your nomadic, alcoholic mother doesn't exactly make for a storybook childhood. But now her world has fallen apart just when it should be coming together: her mother gone — dead under mysterious circumstances; her life uprooted to stay with estranged relatives she’s never met; and there’s something odd about some of the people she’s been meeting at school:
  • They’re dead.
  • Aided by Tia, her neurotic roommate, and Dr. David Pierce, a ghost-hunting professor, Jess must unravel the mystery behind her hauntings. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger shadows her every move. An ancient secret, long-buried, is about to claw its way to the surface, and nothing can prepare Jess for one terrifying truth...her encounters with the world of the dead are only just beginning.
  • Spirit Legacy
  • is the first of three thrilling paranormal page-turners in "The Gateway Trilogy" by E.E. Holmes.

I was really excited when it came to this book. Hopeful, once I finished my last book, I jumped right into this on. I was extremely disappointed.
To me, when I read a book where the main character is a woman, I want to read about her overcoming her fears and becoming a stronger person. Yet the main character of this book was just... depressing. It just seemed like whatever life threw at her, she sulked and whined and cried over how much her life sucked. The only time she seemed strong was when her inner demon took control. She bounced between both men, and couldn't make her mind over what she wanted.
I found this book to be boring and reading it was like pulling teeth. Maybe it gets better in other books, and some day I might pick it up.

Love this book

I bought this book because the author is the sister of a work colleague. I am so glad I did. the book captures you from the start and you immediately become invested in the main character Jess. A young woman dealing with tragedy and things happening to her that she doesn't understand. I have recommended this book to my friends and family and cannot wait to read the other two books in the trilogy.

Could not put it down!

I stayed up way too late reading this book, but I could not put it down. The author has created likable characters that a reader will care about. This is a book for a more mature YA audience with sexual assault content and at least one f-bomb, so be forewarned. That being said, I am an adult and thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a light, enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next!

Book is falling apart

I'm enjoying reading this book, I haven't bent the spine, but the pages are falling out of the book, when you take the time to purchase the book in hardcopy, the pages shouldn't fall out in your hand when you turn the page, disappointed in the quality of the book. I hope I don't have the same problem with the remain 2 books in the series.

My FAVORITE SERIES

The Gateway series from EE Holmes is my favorite book series! I’ve read all 11 books 3 times already…and plan to read them again in the future. I’m partial to the Audible versions because I love the voices of some of my favorite characters, but I also own the series on Kindle, and am collecting them on paperback. EE Holmes is such a cool lady too. Check out her new Riftmagic Saga series also!

Very disappointing

A really weird book, on one hand the plot is interesting and intriguing but on the other hand the characters are shallow and uninteresting.
the protagonist is childish and really intolerable, so intolerable that I was not able to finish this book.
I just can’t believe how many people gave that book 5 stars!!!

Couldn't put this book down

I absolutely loved this book. Great story line, loved the characters and everything about this book. I would have finished it in one day if I didn't have to work... It took a day and a half and I look forward to receiving the next two books in this series (which are coming tomorrow!) I love how this author writes and will be reading all her books!

Not scary

I didn’t find the book particularly scary. The introduction of the ghost was creative, but overall, I was not impressed enough to buy the other books in the series.
