Could do without the F word.

Not a gripping psychological thriller. Too many silly flaws.

Intriguing at first....

Warning spoilers!!

At first I was really into this story it was a page turner for me but then....it kinda crashed and burned. After years and years of being separated long lost sisters become reunited. Clare is super excited while her husband Luke has reservations and asks her to be careful which she gets upset about. After things keep happening she ends up having the same reservations as her husband did and he treats her as thought she is an idiot and crazy. It’s impossible for me to believe that husband wouldn’t believe his wife over some stranger especially when he initially was skeptical. So the husband to me is a jerk. Everything was just rushed together it built up for a minute then it was concluded so quickly it had me like wait...that’s it? And how things closed with Alice I just don’t understand that threw me way off.

Wow, how disappointing......

We read this book for a book club. We were so excited initially but, this was a disappointment. I think the author was all over the place. Most importantly, the story had nothing to do with 2 sisters.....I just dont understand all the hype and reviews???.

One Star

Extremely predictable and everything wrapped up way to nicely at the end.

Poorly written. Simplistic characters. Review doesn't even deserve complete sentences.

Pretty good read

If you are in to this type of book, it is a good read. It kept me interested. I finished it in a couple of days. I bought more books by this author. Also read, "The girl who lied", which was also a pretty good book.

Plot keeps you interested, iffy protagonist, potentially upsetting content near the end.

I very much enjoyed reading this book, as I love thrillers related to family secrets and it was definitely a great way to pass the time while curled up in the evenings. But I do feel like I've read this book before? Not specifically this book, but I've read several books set in England where a woman discovers what she thinks is a suspicious plot of conspiracy, she brings it up to a significant other (current or former), they don't believe her and decide she's crazy, she then proceeds to ACT crazy, and then almost by chance manages to prove she was right all along. It's not a bad premise, but it's definitely been done before, right down to specifics. There's also some answers you're looking for that you'll only have implied resolution to.

I also feel that the main protagonist here, Clare, exacerbated a lot of her situations because she was so vague about why she was acting certain ways. "What on earth made you think that?" "Just THINGS, gosh I need you to believe me." Her husband in particular, we probably are supposed to be frustrated with him but given the information he had, I would probably feel the exact same way he does in regards to Clare.

In addition, Clare kinda went back and forth between a lawyer who knows the ins and outs of legalities and someone who is trying to prove something without actually gathering evidence. Her best friend Pippa also goes from being the one to tell Clare "your sister is impersonating you she's suspicious I don't trust her" to apparently not even considering Clare's sister was behind an act of vandalism and convinced it was Clare instead.

Lastly, there is a VERY sudden and unexpected suicide in the book, so while I would recommend this book in general despite the predictability that comes with having read this basic story before, THAT comes out of nowhere and if that content is upsetting for someone I would probably pick something else to read.
