Sewing Machine Reference Tool: A Troubleshooting Guide to Loving Your Sewing Machine, Again!

This book is a good one, a quick guide. It will help with proper maintenance of your valuable machines.
I have his other book 'You and Your Sewing Machine' which includes practically the same information on troubleshooting and fixing. I say buy one or the other.

As a retired auto mechanic, I have turned my years of experience to working on sewing machines, especially vintage sewing machines. I have a few books that have been helpful through the years. Some better than others BUT this is the only book you will ever need! I was impressed that he not only explains what to do to fix a problem but he explains WHY! With every chapter, I have learned more than all my other books combined. If you have some mechanical experience this book is a God send. If you lack mechanical experience, you can still learn from this book as the information is well presented but experience would be helpful. The book is laid out in a very organized manner and thoroughly covers every part of a sewing machine. I will be buying a couple of them for gifts for my sewing friends. I highly recommend this book!

I thought it was repair book half at least is how to sew instructions.

I've been sewing for over 45 years and have had several machines. My husband and I started doing basic maintenance of mine out of necessity and we learned a lot and have done some basic repairs and timing on several machines, including some for other people. While this doesn't tell you how to fix your timing or how to replace parts, it is full of very useful information that you just don't learn via your manual or even searching stuff online. I definitely got some important tips for a few things that I didn't learn via experience or elsewhere and have a better understanding about the WHYS of how things work/don't work. For the price, it's handy information, he has very good photos of examples of how things work and he's been repairing machines for over 40 years!

Finally found a clear explanation and correction instructions for tension problems! I also love that he addresses a variety of sewing machine types. The pictures really help to identify which part pertains to your machine, with more details than I have found in the machine manuals.

I was hoping it would tell me where and how to oil my machine. My book that came with the machine doesn't say where to oil and I've just been doing it by guessing. Would appreciate knowing if I'm doing it right.

Really good information, but I don't think this book will hold up to even light use.. Not worth the price!! SHAME. SHAME.

Handy, well written & delightfully illustrated reference tool for using & troubleshooting your personal sewing machines. Wish I had one when I bought my first sewing machine- would be more proficient!
