Description

Review “Fliess’s ( Flash and Gleam ) lighthearted quatrain text clearly delineates what’s required of a leader: Sadie keeps the crew motivated…and she shows tenacity and ingenuity in the face of a Martian sandstorm and a grounded ship. Bright and bouncy colors underscore the spirit of adventure, and Tempest’s (the Babylit series) cartooned drawings have a freewheeling spontaneity that’s well suited to the idea of Sadie going where her mind takes her. Back matter contributes facts about Mars and women in space.” ― Publishers Weekly “Inspiring, adventurous fun for aspirational kids.” ― Kirkus Reviews “The contributions that women have made in science is rarely taught. Sadie is the first to Mars and soon reaches to fame. I recommend Sadie’s adventure into space to encourage young girls and boys to share in their science adventures into space.” ―Midwest Book Review About the Author Sue Fliess is the author of more than thirty children’s books, including Mrs. Claus Takes the Reins , illustrated by Mark Chambers; Shoes for Me! , A Dress for Me! , and Books for Me! , all illustrated by Mike Laughead; and Let’s Build , illustrated by Miki Sakamoto. She lives with her family and their two dogs in northern Virginia, where they admire the moon, stars, and sometimes even planets from their backyard. Learn more about Sue at www.suefliess.com. Annabel Tempest is the illustrator of a number of picture books and board books. Too many easy-to-avoid errors

It’s a fun story, but as a parent trying to make sure my son understands the world, a space book like this makes too many unnecessary, easy-to-avoid mistakes in depicting space travel to Mars. I’m not pedantic, I just dislike the idea of a book presumably trying to promote STEM making so many errors.

Every depiction of the solar system is totally wrong. Celestial bodies are in the sky that make no sense. The duration of the trip is wrong. The use of the term “altitude” is wrong. The atmosphere on Mars doesn’t exist.

If you’re gonna write this book, why not have an astronomer or engineer give it a once over before publishing? Pretty embarrassing to hold it up as a motivating story to learn science and engineering and get so many basic things wrong.

Amazing book!

The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and captivated both my 5yr old son and my 2.5yr old daughter. I've been looking for a space book for our preschool lesson on space and this is definitely the perfect book! They fly to Mars but have to build a ship first so it's both about space and a rocket ... most books I was finding were about one or the other but not BOTH. The rhyming text is Perfect! It's cute, engaging, not awkward at all and I love that it's a little girl astronaut as well. Not to take away from boys like my son, but most space books are geared toward boys and not girls but girls should know they can be astronauts too. This book hit all the marks for me... storyline, rhyming text, beautiful pictures... Get this book! You'll love it for any space adventurer in your life!

Great read, perfect for space and rocket lovers

This has become a favorite for my rocket ship loving toddlers. Great rhyming, easy to read, validates a kid’s desire to travel to space. Female main character even loved by boys, great example of taking an idea from research to planning to building to executing and even problem solving. Imaginative and encourages pretend play.

Written for self-confidence, still...

A little scary because she gets stuck in space and will have to get it together to fix it herself!
