Practical, Clever, Inspirational

My wife and I have tried to keep a simple, uncluttered household for years, but with two wild boys it is very difficult, and when we look around, we realize we've let many small failures pile up, and what used to be a clean, simple space has become cluttered and chaotic.

Enter Remodelista, The Organized Home. Not only does Ms Carlson offer clever, practical, timeless ideas, she is simply inspiring on the topic of making simplicity a priority in your home and your life. Brace yourself Goodwill: we're headed your way this Saturday!

Simple, Stylish Storage Ideas for All Over the House

We are in the process of getting ready to sell our home and this book has helped us to think differently about how to organize for now--and later. I started with bathroom drawers (great tips for this problem zone and others) and we are moving through the house as we figure out our next move. Who knows, we may get so organized we will decide to stay! Next on our list: The storage unit.I also really liked the Interviews with unexpected experts, including kindergarten teachers.

A Catalog of One Style With Sources

This is a catalog of vignettes for her white paint and unstained-wood style. Sources are in the last chapter. It should have been named "How to Eliminate All Plastic In The Home." What bothered me the most was their truly bad liberties with English. "Door" is not a verb. "Tray" is not a verb. You don't "decant" when you pour dog food into a container. If you like glossy pages with pretty colored photos, you may like this catalog. I did not see any photos of rooms, just the vignettes. There was only one style illustrated in many pretty ways, however it was so very much *not* what I expected. I have never returned a book before, however I returned this one.

Good ideas but not what I️ expected

Nice book but not at all what I️ was expecting. No full photos of nice rooms with good organizational planning but rather just items, like a fancy Container Store catalog.

Pretty but impractical

It seems the one idea repeated many times is "decant"...take anything you buy from the original package and put it in a glass jar. Well, yeah, that looks sweet in the photos...but...don't you need labels, directions, calorie counts, expiration date, product name or other info in case you want to repurchase (or not)? I mean, there is a reason for some of the packaging information. And please, I do not want glass jars in the tiled bathroom...slippery glass breaks when dropped on tile. Sorry, not impressed.

Nice ideas but . . .

Some nice ideas many of which I have seen before. Their recommended shopping sites are ludicrously expensive for the average person. $60 for a toilet brush? Oh, come on!

Clever, aesthetically pleasing and useful ideas abound.

I was already a huge Remodelista fan with very high expectations and I was not disappointed at all. This book is both beautiful and really useful (and super well timed for me as I am currently doing a renovation and will be able to incorporate many great ideas!) I got one book for me and several more to give as gifts.

Gorgeous and effective but needs a little more

Really beautiful and helpful, easy to use, including ideas I haven’t seen elsewhere. I’d give it 5 stars, but I feel like it should have included toy and hobby organization - two tricky areas. Maybe there will be a second volume?
