Not well written, should have had the small good parts expanded and much of what is here, thrown out.

This book has many faults.

SO SO many people's names are tossed into this book. People who have zero point to be mentioned at all. The author has made everyone in this book, hypersensitive that others are "hiding " something. Getting the two main characters together in the same inn in New England was more than unbelievable.

Having everyone instantly referring to Greg upon meeting him as Agent. Right. Naturally there is a firefighter and a policeman in this book too. Not very subtle attempts at adding macho sex appeal to the book.

Regardless of how many times the "connections" between all the characters were brought up, they never did make sense. Apparently everyone was related to everyone but it had little to do with making the story any more real.

Evelyn's quest for her time capsule was also vastly over played with utterly unnecessary emotion. A book full of houses and people,. most of which did not contribute to the story at all. They were just pointless words.

ALL the angst about Tommy, the ex-fiance, was also over blown for the facts. Guy was a jerk, slept around, she didn't marry him. Yet she somehow let everyone think she'd gotten cold feet? Why on earth?

Greg's children were too perfect to be believed and some of their conversation was utterly unlike any young person.

The medical aftermath of both Greg's shooting and Charlotte's bends comes across as odd. No doctor can simply LOOK at a person and say, you can't dive again. First we are told the inn had been well cleaned before being sold, next we discover all sorts of things, including a padlocked storage room! Normally one does NOT go digging into all the closets and attics and basements of buildings one does not own! Nor do people stop on their honeymoon to wander around someones apartment, because they think "something is up with her". As if there was ONLY one box of anything that left the inn but stayed in the village. The idea of someone thinking of a box of linens, this box of linens hasn't ever been looked at and of COURSE out of all the places a cookie tin, should it even still exist might be, sorry just....SO unbelievable.

Twice she brings up old photos. The first found is of two females girls but instead of going anywhere with this, it is shoved back where it was found. The second old photo is a couple, obviously in love. It too is then ignored as the story goes on. Did the author simply forget she'd mentioned them? Both scenes just end up being more words to read that have nothing at all to do with the story at hand! Seems like poor editing and a lost opportunity.

Setting a book in an old building, in a small town, with a secret to find, and love to sort out was a good start. It went way downhill fast however.

This book needed more editing, rewriting and tightening. The writing is just truly bad. So much misplaced, overblown emotion and feelings here. Yes things happen in this book but getting to the end was a struggle because of the writing.

Another Winner from Carla Neggers

Marine archaeologist Charlotte is at a crossroads in her life after a near fatal dive. While at her cousin's wedding, she encounters Greg, who is also transitioning to less stressful employment.

Although there is chemistry between the two, other relatives in Massachusetts make life more intriguing.

If you enjoy the writing of Carla Neggers, you'll like this story as well.

Thank you GoodReads for the book.
