Features & Highlights

  • Heir to the clan MacFarlane, Ailis was a prize to be bartered by her calculating father, and her wedding to a man she despised seemed inevitable--until she is abducted by her clan's worst enemy, Alexander MaDubh, a brutally handsome laird with ice in his eyes and hot blood in his veins. Alexander had come riding into Leargan to claim the three children born of a forbidden love between his brother and lovely Ailis' sister. Now, with Ailis herself as his pawn, he can strike at the enemy whose treachery robbed his clan of so much. Her beauty and her fierce temper stir his blood, and vengeance has never been so sinfully sweet. But will a passion they cannot deny be enough to ease the pain and torment of the past?
  • Praise for Hannah Howell and her Highland novels. . .
  • "Few authors portray the Scottish highlands as lovingly or colorfully as Hannah Howell." --
  • Publishers Weekly
  • "Expert storyteller Howell pens another Highland winner." --

Physical abuse is not acceptable in any way

I do not understand why authors keep writing of physically abusive men in their stories. Is it now considered romantic for a man to hit a woman, is it considered acceptable to do so and that if she loves him he'll change? Once a man has hit a woman, he will do so again so forgive me if I don't believe that they lived happily ever after. More than likely she will continue to tolerate his abuse for the rest of her life. Physical abuse is not okay in any way, shape or form. I could not continue this book after I read the hero had backhanded the heroine and that's a shame. Authors such as this and the readers who gave this book five stars need a hard dose of reality. Oh yeah it was hilarious how the five year old defended her aunt, what you don't remember is it was necessary since the hero had just backhanded her without even bothering to apologize, not that an apology would have made the abuse okay. If I had continued this book I would have been supporting the actions of this hero as the author is doing by writing that abuse into this story and making it seem okay, and the way the readers have by rating it five stars and not even bothering to mention the physical abuse. Real life people go through these kinds of situations and by writing and reading these kinds of books that treat abuse in such a cavalier way, you are supporting the man who raises a hand to a woman.

great read!

this is the third of a trilogy, although you don't need to have read the first two to read this one. Hannah Howell always captures the Scottish highlander well, including speech and brogue! you won't be disappointed if you read this one except it is the end of the characters in the trilogy!
