Description

“Delving deep past today’s headlines, Lou Dobbs and James O. Borncraft a captivating tale that’s at once thrilling and chilling.” ―W.E.B. Griffin & William E. Butterworth IV, New York Times bestselling authors of the Clandestine Operations series “A thrill-packed and lightning-paced powerhouse of a novel based around a Kremlin plot to retake lost territory by partnering with Islamic terrorists. Former Marine and now a Wall Street “financial grunt,” Derek Walsh is an utterly authentic hero, and his fascinating collection of friends, all combat vets like Walsh himself, help propel the action forward at a breakneck pace. Putin’s Gambit is a fun ride that also paints a plausible and timely scenario that I just hope remains a work of fiction, and does not instead show up as fact in tomorrow’s news!” ―Mark Greaney, New York Times bestselling author of Tom Clancy True Faith and Allegiance and Gunmetal Gray “An engaging, knowing thriller of the first rank. Written with deep knowledge of global security issues and the world's precarious financial system―and with a timely grasp of Vladimir Putin―this is a novel worth moving to the top of your reading list. A stand-out!” ―Ralph Peters, New York Times bestselling author of The Damned of Petersburg “Riveting, powerful, thoroughly enjoyable.” ―Col. David Hunt, New York Times bestselling coauthor of Without Mercy and Fox News Military Commentator LOU DOBBS, the host of Fox Business News' Lou Dobbs Tonight, is a legendary broadcaster, bestselling author, and one of the most respected and insightful voices on politics, economics, society, and business. JAMES O. BORN is an award-winning author who has published articles on history and Florida. He is a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Agent and is currently a Special Agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Features & Highlights

  • From TV broadcaster Lou Dobbs and award-winning author James O. Born comes
  • Putin's Gambit,
  • an international financial thriller about a KGB plot to use a series of terrorist attacks as cover for a Russian military incursion into Estonia.
  • Adjusting to civilian life has not been easy for former Marine Derek Walsh. As he navigates a brutal job on Wall Street and a challenging romance, he wonders if he could be doing more with his life. When an inexplicable $200 million dollar money transfer is made on his computer, he is thrust into the world of international terror, and the global economy is knocked off its hinges.
  • On the other side of the Atlantic, a dangerous alliance has formed. Radical Islamists and Russian extremists have set the wheels in motion for Russia to assert its power in Europe. The US President has proven to be weak on foreign policy, the military is stretched too thin, and Vladimir Putin judges this to be the time for Russia to regain its Soviet Empire. Troops mass on the Estonian border, waiting for the order to move.
  • The FBI believes Walsh was involved in the money transfer, and a group of Russians are intent on killing him. As New Yorkers are outraged upon learning of the illegal money transfer, and the world economy crashes after a series of terrorist attacks, Walsh and his Marine buddies are the only ones that can keep the world from spinning off its axis.

A Very Realistic Plot

Relax, it is only a novel. Yet, the Russian army is on the eastern border of Estonia and Putin has not been shy about wanting to expand borders to include those countries of the former Soviet Union. Russia has proven resources in cyber warfare and is capable in causing disturbances in markets and countries. With weakness in American resolve to contain the Russians and NATOs slow degradation from a fighting force, is it possible that Putin might consider taking a degree of risk, that is calculated, to gain an advantage over America and Europe?

Putin’s Gambit is the second co-authored novel by Lou Dobbs and James O. Born. The plot is realistic and timely. At the center of this plot are four U.S. Marines, of which one remains on active duty in Germany. They all served together as officers in the Middle East and remain good friends. Derek Walsh is a trader with a large Wall Street firm. It was his computer that transferred $200 million to an account in Switzerland, from which several transfers were made to terrorist organizations. Derek, however, did not make the transfers, but is accused.

Riots start to occur throughout America, England and Europe. Orchestrated riots, funded by someone, similar to the ones financed by George Soros in Ferguson. This was an enjoyable read, especially with surprises in the end. The character Derek Walsh was a little hard to take. He kept finding himself in difficult situations, which was a little hard to believe, as well as if he would have worked with the FBI in the beginning, a lot of trial and tribulation could have been avoided, although that would have meant a shorter novel.

With all the riots and concerns related to the illegal wire transfer, would America take its eye off the ball and allow Putin to get away with taking another country as he did with Crimea? Note that the American Administration mentioned in the story, is not the current one. Plus, there are some discrete political messages blended in the story as well.

I was disappointed and went back to reading John Grisham's latest

Too many characters in too short of a time. Hard to keep up with. I was disappointed and went back to reading John Grisham's latest. He is the best story teller!!

Great reading. Story is fiction

Great reading. Story is fiction, but based on history and facts regarding Putin and the Soviet Union. I couldn't put it down as it got very intense towards the end of the book. I bought this book for my husband, but I started reading it and he had to wait. Great job of writing by Dobbs and Born.
