Features & Highlights
The authoritative biography of Prince Harry by noted royal family biographer Penny Junor, author of
Prince William: The Man Who Will Be King
and
The Firm: The Troubled Life of the House of Windsor.
Prince Harry, one of the most popular members of the British royal family, has had a colorful life. After losing his mother at 12 years old, he spent his teenage years making questionable choices under intense international media scrutiny, becoming known for his mischevious grin, shock of red hair, and the occassional not-so-royal indiscretion. As he's grown, he has distinguished himself through military service, flying helicopters for the RAF. He served in Afghanistan and continues to devote himself to his military career. He also follows in his mother's footsteps with charity work--he is the founder of Sentebale, a charity to help orphans in Lesotho, and works with many other charitable organziations to help young people in society and to conserve natural resources. As he reaches his thirtieth birthday, Prince Harry is proving himself a prince of the people. With unprecedented access to the most important figures in his life, Penny Junor is able get the truth about who this mercurial and fascinating royal son really is. A modern biography of a modern prince, this book offers an insider's look at the life of the man who is fourth in line to Britain's throne.

Blatantly biased
Penny Junor has an axe to grind against the late Princess Diana. That's for sure. She rehashes the dirt she put out about Diana in her previous books: Charles Victim or Villain and the biography of Prince William. I was very disappointed that Harry did not get more coverage since Junor put much efforts into spiteful comments about Diana who conveniently is no longer around to defend herself. The low point (a story she also had in Charles Victim or Villain) is when she accuses Diana of making a threatening phone call to Camilla Parker Bowles while Camilla is "alone in the house." Nobody else but Junor had this story out there. And how would Junor know what was going on in Camilla's House. So I suspect its veracity. Also she claims that "everybody" knew about James Hewitt in 1991.How so Ms Junor? Since Hewitt's authorized biography by Anna Pasternack came out in 1994. And it is pathetic that Junor whitewashes what Charles and Camilla did and even makes a claim that Charles made sure nobody ever spoke badly of Diana. Oh yes so How come Nicholas Soames publicly bashed Diana, Charles cousin trashed her only last year, and of course Junor keeps grinding out the poison pen books about Diana. She again repeats her claim that Diana did "now know how to be a mother." So how come William and Harry praise Diana and her mothering of them--how is Junor in any position to make such judgments. She even exonerates Camilla Parker Bowles even though Camilla was reported to have given her side of the story to the Sun editor during the years Charles and Diana were married. Camilla was Charles married mistress and despite Diana's protests Charles would not totally keep Camilla out of his life. Junor condemns Diana for making Charles "miserable" while the Prince did everything he could to please Diana so how come he did not dump Camilla and kept in touch with her? I think it a bad sign that the newlywed husbands wears a gift from the mistress on the honeymoon for the wife to see. Charles even admitted to his biographer Dimbleby that he preferred Camilla to Diana at the time he married Diana. Also there were reports by those who worked for Charles and Diana of Charles public put downs of his first wife--so he is not the Saint that Junor thinks he is.Something that would put a coffin nail in any marriage when the husband prefers the mistress to the wife. Junor gets very strident and shrill when it comes to Diana. She even shows her attitude in the photos she chooses. There is a back cover of Charles, William and Harry with their mother nowhere in sight. And the largest photo is of Charles and the boys when they were little. The pics of Diana are 1/4 of the size of the Charles and the boys pictures. I don't think Junor is finished with her spite and I think more books will be out with lots of Diana bashing. It is particularly tasteless for Harry to know that on his 30th birthday is a book by Junor that tears his mother apart. Thanks loads Penny Junor.
I was disappointed in the Harry coverage. and just got a very sketchy report of Harry's exes, Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas. It is not a fully dimensional portrait of the ladies that captured Harry's heart. Chelsy especially was a log term girlfriend. There was a only a brief mention of Harry-Cressida's breakup as well.
Junor praises Harry and William for allegedly planning the 50th birthday party for Charles where Camilla was present. But leaves out the stories of 13 year old Harry getting access to the liquor cabinet at Highgrove the time of the party. I think they accepted Camilla for their father's sake primarily and I doubt they are as fond of Camilla as Junor thinks they are.
Junor praises the Middletons to the skies in the book and Kate as well. Woe betide Kate if she crosses Junor, she will be made an example of by Ms Junor just like Diana was and is now. Harry's interest in charities is covered, the Memorial he and his brother prepared for their mother (laughably Junor ignores that it was not only Rosa Monckton who protested about Camilla going to the Diana Memorial Service but public outcry). Why Junor thinks Camilla walking into the Memorial was appropriate speaks volumes about her bias.
Of course, Junor talks about Harry's wearing the Nazi costume and the Las Vegas adventures. She leaves out that William was with Harry when he selected the uniform; other writers have pointed this out in their books about William and Harry. She talks about Harry's service in Afghanistan, and his royal tours. She did make William look saintly compared to Harry in this book and her previous book about Prince William.
I would have liked Junor to suspend her loathing of Diana and concentrate upon Harry. Both Harry's parents loved him but from this book one would think Charles the angel and Diana the devil. This is Junor's point of view and she is clearly an ardent Charles and Camilla fan so is not objective.
I would recommend reading other biographies of Prince Harry for a far more objective view.

Not a biography at all. Is Grand Central a self-publishing vanity press? ...because this reads like it must be.
This book is misrepresented by its title and cover art. Harry himself gets a mention once in a blue moon, and not even that in the first half. We learn nothing new about him (we ALL already knew he lost his mother too young). The book is badly written even at the level of the romance novel genre. It is primarily the author's need to gossip about petty personal politics when the job itself of being a "Royal" is about the PR—using one's position or fame to bring attention and resources to important social issues. Something Diana did extremely well. This author is still beating a dead woman who is not here to defend herself, and who did far more to improve the reputation of so-called "Royalty" than anyone prior. Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED for anyone other than the British class of people who either live in castles or buy those grocery store tabloids with headlines that scream unconfirmed personal details about famous people's lives but nearly always get it wrong. The author does a disservice to the young man the book claims to be about, and while she probably believes she is serving the monarchy, Junor puts them in a bad light too because this is the kind of hack job that looks hired and probably was. What I learned: it confirmed the "Royals" are spoiled and England is stupid about them and that I wasted my time and money buying the book. Grand Central Publishing should be ashamed of itself for publishing this author.

Prince Harry presented as all that is good and noble
This is essentially an authorized biography of Prince Harry. The author thanks the prince for authorizing staff to talk to her, and the end result is a hagiography that presents Harry as a wonderful man while explaining away the lechery, drunkenness, and drugs as normal teenage hijinks.
Diana is the villain of this book. Without actually using the phrase "bad mother," Junor paints Diana as a bad mother, as well as being manipulative, vicious, and unbalanced. In Junor's view, Charles and the children were the victims.
The book is an over-the-top homage to the royal family, allowing British taxpayers to rationalize why they must subsidize this anachronism from medieval times. Yet even Junor occasionally takes off her rose-colored glasses to take a swipe at Harry. She points out that if the hard-core partying continues much longer, Harry's image will shift from being a lovable ruffian to that of a seedy, middle-aged lech.

Nothing at all to do with Harry.
Nothing to do with Prince Harry... It is a book about how Charles suffered at the hands of Diana because she was difficult but he did his best (page after page detailing why this is so) and how long suffering Camilla is happy at last with the blessing of William and Harry.

Prince Harry is the most handsome man I've ever seen & heard, & I love photos of him. Yes, I'm a big fan of his!!!
I love the cover & back of the dust jacket of this book, which has another handsome photo of Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Harry, Prince Charles, his father & next heir in succession to become King, & Prince William, his older brother, second heir in succession, of the United Kingdom, previously called England, plus there are many fantastic photos in the center of this book. I've been following news of Prince Harry on his website Prince Henry Of Wales, his official, royal name, for some time, so I don't really need to read this book much; I haven't been allowed to print out photos of Prince Harry from the internet & keep them, which is why I love this book & will try to buy two others about him, which I will keep forever. Thanks to all who made this possible, including His Royal Highness, Prince Harry, himself. As long as the United States of America remains independent, I don't know why we who are interested in news of the U.K. shouldn't receive it. There is also the main website of the British Monarchy for news, including about H.R.H. Prince George, third heir in succession. I bought the following 4X6 inch flags, from Amazon.com, which are prominently displayed in my living room to show my interest in the U.K.'s flags, the Union Jack with the Royal Family Crest (England), Wales, Scotland, & Northern Ireland, in addition to my American flags, all which I keep in a Christmas mug that was a gift. I also have lots of U.K. music bought on MP3 & compact disc. It sounds wonderful. Happy Shopping & Merry Christmas 2014!

You could get fresher information, more accurate, better-written and less biased, by Googling Harry. This shameless cut-and-paste job really is a toad. Don't kiss it.
