Description

Advance Praise for Poles Apart: “Terry Fallis has written a delightful book about a young man inspired by feminism to contribute to the cause…. Funny and engaging, Poles Apart is a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening read.” —Judy Rebick, founding publisher, rabble.ca, and former president of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women xa0 “ Poles Apart is quite possibly the most fun you can ever have while reading about the struggle for equality. Light-hearted, wickedly funny in skewering every male/female stereotype, and surprisingly touching in some of its more tender and off-beat relationships, this novel lights up the lovability of feminism and its defenders.” —Michele Landsberg, journalist, author, feminist, and social activist “I am a blogger. Terry Fallis is supposedly not a blogger. But he’s written a cleverly observed book that’s taught me things about blogging and being a blogger that even I wasn’t aware of.” —Elaine Lui, author of Listen to the Squawking Chicken and founder of LaineyGossip.com Terry Fallis is the award-winning author of four national bestsellers, all published byxa0McClelland & Stewart. Fallis' work is like potato chips, you can't stop with one

I like Terry Fallis' writing. It's light, amusing, well written and I know that I would like the author. Like many humour books, tho, there is hyperbole and stretched imagination employed. I find that structure a smidge laborious although Fallis is pretty good at it. To make this story, Fallis conjures up some pretty good characters and they seem to interact as real people. I like that. Poles Apart is good. But, his writing, applied to a real or more plausible scenario, might make for a better book..... jus' sayin'.........

humorous and intelligent book and I highly recommend it

Poles Apart is an enjoyable, light read with a message. Everett Kane is a writer who chooses to pen an anonymous feminist blog while unknowingly sitting in an apartment above a brand new gentlemen's club owned by a dangerous entrepreneur. The premise alone was enough to bring a smile to my face. The storyline cleverly evolves as Everett's blog becomes more and more popular and his identity slowly unravels. The messages are clear about gender equality or the lack thereof. As I am involved in raising money for young women in Africa, the issues raised in Poles Apart are even more relevant for me. But aside from that, this is a well written, humorous and intelligent book and I highly recommend it.
