Great value, low cost

When I became a photo organizer a little over a year ago, I joined the Association of Personal Photo Organizers (APPO) and dug into all of the training they offered. Founder Cathi Nelson has condensed all of this knowledge from various places into one easy-to-read, affordable paperback. There are so many tips and tricks, I will pull this volume off the shelf over and over. It's a great resource to use to find products and tools as well (Cathi's Pics). If you have any doubts about the importance of saving photos and telling their stories, the essays in the back of the book will convince you.

This book will empower you to face a daunting but crucial task of organizing your photographs

I bought 5 copies of Cathi Nelson's book, one for myself, one for each daughter, one for my brother and one for my sister. More specifically, when I noticed the book on Amazon, by mere coincidence, it triggered an intermittent anxiety that has existed since my siblings and I attempted to catalog photographs that we came upon after both of our parents had passed some 30 years ago. They left us hundreds of photographs dating back to the late 19th century and up through my childhood. Now of course I have my own photographs dating back to the growth of my own children 28 and 24. When I noticed Ms.Nelson's book, I bought it right away, and 6 months later, the heap of printed photographs and galaxy of on-line images are now cataloged and easily retrieved according to subject, holidays, individuals, date, and a variety of other life themes. I then bought 4 more copies of the book, and my sister found the stamina to go through what I had organized and make a series of books for the entire family to enjoy. Selecting her favorite photos that were easily found from the collection that emerged from following the simple directions in the book. My brother printed and framed a number of images that he intends to use as holiday gifts for members of our extended family who live in various parts around the world. My daughters and I will continue to use Cathi's system from here on out. The book is not only practical, but it also includes a number of life stories to remind anyone who doesn't already know, how valuable their photographs are. By yourself a copy or maybe more than one.

This is a true beginners guide.

Disappointing - the information contained in this book is simplistic -nothing revolutionary to help you organize your photos.

If only I have had this book when I decided to become my family curator...

I migrated more than 25 years ago. My kids were taken away from their grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends and family traditions. We couldn't participate in so many events. I was determined to keep our traditions alive and to avoid the family to be invisible to each other. I started collecting photos each time I was visiting the family and became the family curator. If only I have had this book on hand to teach me how to properly do it, it would have save me hours and hours of work and frustrations. Thanks for giving us such a good guide to accomplish this absolutely worthy project.

Not what I expected

I should’ve known from the title but I was looking for tips on how to organize 50+ years of actual photos BEFORE converting them to digital. I read a few pages & then consigned it to my stack of books I probably won’t get back to.
