Description

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. The first one said,"Oh my, it's getting late." Join Pete the Cat as he rocks out to this cool adaptation of the classic Halloween song "Five Little Pumpkins." James Dean is the original creator and illustrator of Pete the Cat. He is a self-taught artist originally from Fort Payne, Alabama. His passion for drawing became apparent at a young age, and as a child, you could find James drawing his favorite characters like Snoopy and Yogi Bear. James earned his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and went on to work for Georgia Power for a number of years. Eventually, he was called to pursue his art full-time and began selling his work at art festivals around the Southeast. It was during this time that he began creating paintings and drawing of his cat, Pete. The little blue cat showed up as a character in James’s artwork around 1999 and has been a permanent fixture ever since. James Dean’s art has been sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat , a history of his artwork, in 2006, and he illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes , in 2008. There are now almost 100 published Pete the Cat titles with more coming out all the time. James is humbled every day by the success that this groovy blue cat has brought him. He says positively affecting children’s lives is his number one priority, and he is grateful to have such an amazing audience to work for. Kimberly Dean is a children’s author, artist, and yoga enthusiast best known as a NYT bestselling author and co-parent of children’s book character Pete the Cat. Before fulfilling her dream of becoming a full-time author and artist, she worked for the State of Georgia, leaving the Governor’s Press Office in 1998 to pursue her art. She began selling her work at art festivals in 1999 and opened a small art gallery in 2003. She dabbles in multiple mediums and enjoys experimenting with new styles and techniques. She says of her job, “I love what I do!xa0 Work is like going to kindergarten everyday!” In 2004, she began collaborating with fellow artist James Dean to create children’s books about Pete the Cat. The Misadventures of Pete the Cat , a coffee table book of James’s art, was released in 2006. Her dreams of becoming a published children’s book author became a reality in 2013 with the release of her first children’s book, Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses . She has now written many of the Pete the Cat books, as well as started another series starring her own characters Willow and Oliver. Kimberly lives in Savannah with her dog, Gypsy, and cat, Phoebe. Her children and grandchildren live nearby, and her favorite word is “Lovie,” which is the name her grandchildren lovingly call her.

What has Pete to do with this?

Not what I expected from a "Pete the Cat" book. It is a colorful book with extremely sparse text about 5 little pumpkins and Halloween. Pete is in each picture, but that is all he has to do with the story. I find it a bit disappointing and don't recommend it if you are looking for a traditional "Pete the Cat" book.

Not worth the extra money.

Not impressed. Great illustrations as usual, but the story was phoned in. Very little substance compared to other Pete books(which we love!). That wouldn't bother me as much if it was one of the $3.99 books. Not a great effort here.

Only last 60 Seconds

It's just okay. Not as good as Wheels on The Bus. We can read it in less than 1 minute. Was hoping for better as we love the other Pete the Cat books.

Love this book!

I work as a preschool teacher and I personally LOVE all the Pete the Cat books! This one was no different It was cute, colorful and creative. There were 29 pages with 15 pages that hold text. The text is usually a small sentence or half of a sentence. Perfect age for a 1-3 year old to read to and older for learning how to read.

Great book for younger children.

I see a lot of other reviewers complaining about the length of the book.. however, I found it to be a perfect length for my 3 year old. He was able to stay interested in it and finish the story before getting distracted and moving onto something else. So for my child this was the perfect length book. Great illustrations and it's a fun little story about Halloween with the popular Pete the Cat. If you are looking for a longer book that an older child can enjoy reading, then this isn't the book for you. I would recommend this book for younger children, who are being read to, or for the beginner readers, as it is simple enough that they can read it.

Simple, colorful, fun!

Nice hardcover book with paper pages. We love the bright primary colors. The text is simply the lyrics of “Five Little Pumpkins.” So, while it’s not educational in the sense of having a plot with a moral to the story, it is educational in the sense that the artwork provides plenty to talk about with your child and, of course, counting to five. It is a fun seasonal book!

Don't waste your money.

This book is absolutely awful. I wish I had read all of the negative reviews before I bought it. My kinds love Pete the Cat but were really disappointed with this book. The author should be ashamed of himself for slapping together this book in 5 minutes just for the sake of having a Halloween book to sell.

Boring and Contrived, but a Pete the Cat loving kid will appreciate it regardless

If your child loves Pete the Cat, this book will be probably be a winner regardless. From a parental point of view, the story isn't as good or engaging as a normal Pete the Cat book. It is contrived with holiday sales in mind... brief sentences and rhymes, and honestly, not a very good tale. My son really got excited to see a Pete the Cat Halloween book, but after one time through it, really has no interest in me reading it to him again. He likes looking at the pictures, however, because he does love Pete the Cat.. but even he knows a boring book when he hears one.

Fun art but not a Pete story that are useful for me as a teacher.

Eye catching illustrations that are good for keeping my students' attention. My main complaint is that I use Pete the Cat books to teach early elementary second language children to read in English. The stories usually had some moral or positive message, with illustrations that I could help children learn new English vocabulary. This one is basically just lyrics to a song with nice illustrations, so it didn't turn out to be the learning tool that I had hoped when I ordered it. I'd recommend for very young kids to listen to instead of a literacy tool for early readers.
