Cute little book, but wording could be re-written...

I bought this book as an expansion of my 18-month old daughter's "library". She has adored author's book such as "Where is baby's mommy?" and "Where is baby's bellybutton?" I was hoping that this book would be just as good. Don't get me wrong, my daughter loves lifting the flaps and other interactive aspects of the book. However, each time I read this book to her, I have to change the narrative to come in 3rd person, i.e. "Who's hiding behind the ball? Peek-a-boo! It's a silly baby (girl/boy)" instead of "It's silly you". Even my 18-month old is smart enough to know that the drawings of children in the book are some other children, and not her. When I used the original narrative, she got upset and tried to tell me that she is not in the book, it's some other babies. They say that the concept of "self" comes about at approximately 12-months. So, the book as written would be most useful with 0-12 months age group. For older kids you would have to change the narrative to make the story about someone else, otherwise, they would just get upset.

Also, as is the case with all Karen Katz's books, the flaps come off way too easily when a child pulls on them slightly. I have to use clear tape to attach the flaps back where they belong in all of the books. We already had to buy 3 replacements for the books my daughter enjoys the most. Perhaps it's the publisher's way to ensure constant demand. I found these books at local TJMaxx and Marshall's for $2-$4.

My 6 month old loves this book. There's no other book that she enjoys so much. She's gone so far as to attempt to turn the pages now :)

Update : My daughter is now 18 months old and this remains a favorite. She asks to read this book at least 2-3 times everyday! I also highly recommend this set of books by the same author - http://www.amazon.com/Babys-Box-Fun-Lift---Flap/dp/0689038623/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1449520731&sr=1-3&keywords=karen+katz. My daughter received this set as a birthday present and they are very well loved.

Our "Baby" loves these books!

Not sure what it is about these books, but our little 7-month-old loves them! She reaches out for the flaps (likes to put them in her mouth, but she does that with everything.) When I pick up other books, she reaches for these. Her fvorite still seems to be "Where is Baby's Beach Ball," but she likes all of the lift-the-flap Baby books.

Toddlers love his book!

I recently purchased this book for one of the toddlers in my pre-school class as a birthday gift. My son also loved this book when he was younger and he actually still pulls it out every once in a while at age 5. Lift the flap books are really great for child development and motor skills. We have several Karen Kats lift the flap books and the kids love being able to help lift the flaps as we read. I would recommend this book mainly for ages 1-3.

Izzy's Favorite

We've tried to find a book that our now 11 month old would enjoy before bed. It took several but finally we found this one. I'm not sure where it came from but she loves it. It will almost always calm her down and she has so much fun now trying to lift the flaps. It will likely not make it to the donation bin because of how much she enjoys it, but that is a small price to pay for peace! I highly recommend this book over similar lift the flap books that have a little too much prose and not enough color for my little one.

All of my children have LOVED this book from about 6 months on

This is our go to book to give to expecting families. All of my children have LOVED this book from about 6 months on. They love to look at the pictures and lift the flaps. After 3 children, this book has been very well loved, and I actually bought a 2nd one for our family.

With or without the flaps it works!

This lift-the-flap book appeals to young children because of the oversized illustrations and the flaps. The only real downside is the fact that the flaps will rip if the child is not careful. The upside is even with the flaps gone the child will still love paging through the book because of the colors and supersized illustrations of the baby featured here.

Love the book, was not in "good" condition

It's a great book, especially since my little one's favorite game is "peek a boo". However, I'm so disappointed in the condition in which I received the book. I did purchase this book used and in good condition. With that being said, I expected some wear and tear and maybe some writing.. I have purchased many "good condition" books on Amazon and other places. But to me, a lift the flap book that is missing flaps to lift is not in "good" condition.

It is a great book and I love all of the books in this Karen Katz collection. I would definitely rate this 5 stars if the condition were more accurate. So beware of the condition you order; someone else's definition of good may be different than your own.
