Description

Charles Monroe Schulz (1922 -2000) was a 20th-century American cartoonist best known for his Peanuts comic strip. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Dena and Carl Schulz. His nickname "Sparky" was given by his uncle, after the horse Spark Plug in the Barney Google comic strip. He attended St. Paul's Richard Gordon Elementary School, where he skipped two half-grades. As a result, he was the youngest in his class when he attended St. Paul Central High years later, which may have been the reason why he was so shy and isolated as a young teenager. After his mother died in February, 1943, he was drafted into the army and sent to Camp Campbell in Kentucky. He was then shipped to Europe two years later to fight in World War II. After leaving the United States Army in 1945, he took a job as an art teacher at Art Instruction Inc., which he attended before he was drafted. First published by Robert Ripley in his Ripley's Believe It or Not! , then in a series of chronicles, The Saturday Evening Post , his first regular comic strip, Li'l Folks was published in 1947 by the St. Paul Pioneer Press . (It was in this strip that Charlie Brown first appeared, as well as a dog that looked much like Snoopy). In 1950 he approached the United Features Syndicate with his best strips from Li'l Folks , and Peanuts made its first appearance on October 2, 1950. This strip became one of the most popular comic strips of all time. He also had a short-lived sports-oriented comic strip called It's Only a Game (1957-1959), but abandoned that strip due to the demands of the success of Peanuts .

A Book of Quotes

This is not a book of Strips. It is really a book of quotes sorted by subject matter... this could almost be made into Hallmark cards
For example the subject is Effort and the quote is Some of my best school papers have been written before breakfast.......Sally Brown
and on the opposing page is her examining her written work
The book is 128 pages
Probably one thing I was able to enjoy a little more in this book is Charles Schulz's artwork Like a close-up of Charlie Brown looking into an empty mailbox
And Charlie Brown laying flat on his back with circles around his head
Just little things like that.....
I did enjoy this book I gave it three stars cause I was disappointed it wasn't a book of strips, I like the new way they have of sorting the strips for us Baseball, other sports, School and of course Love and I thought this was another one.....
Maybe it didn't get four stars cause it was done too soon One quote a page You feel like a speed reader.

Worst Quality

The contents are OK, although not great. The paper used for this book and the
printing quality is the worst quality I have ever seen in my life.
You even don't want to use this kind of paper in the restroom.
It's a shame that our beloved Peanuts characters had to printed in there. It's a crime.
The publishers should be sued for Peanut characters molestation.
I'm an avid Peanuts fan and I'm greatly disappointed. I somehow expected
the similar quality of the Series: Friendship is ..", "Love is ..", "Happiness is ..."
"Hope is ..."

small book, can finish reading it in 5 minutes, even though it is over 100+ pages.
Since I paid 1 cent for the book, I can't complain.
S/H was a fixed $3.99

Beware: Bill Cosby wrote the intro

I had not blown-up the cover to see that his name was there, and had only read the publisher summations, which suspiciously did not mention this. I had planned to give this as a birthday gift but cannot now. This needs to be republished.

Cool Schulz book.

As with anything from Charles M. Schulz, this is yet another collection of great words. Little hardback with embossed characters on the glossy paper cover. Enjoyable and timeless with a fantastic price! Great gift idea for the C. Brown or Snoopy lover.

BIll Cosby introduction....

Unless you blow up the picture of the cover, you wouldn't notice that it has an introduction from Bill Cosby. I gift-wrapped it in a hurry, and didn't even notice it then. It caused a few grim moments around the Birthday table when it was unwrapped. What can you say....no matter how you feel about Cosby, he's the elephant in the room when he makes an unexpected appearance on a happy occasion.

Note: there is a newer edition with an Andy Cohen introduction. Amazon is listing the reviews for the old Cosby edition [still available] with the new Cohen edition -- It has a green chevron cover with Linus and Charlie Brown in a circle.

Peanuts Guide To Life by Charles M Schulz

This is an adorable little book! "Adorable" being the positive, and "little" being my only disappointment. I just love Charles Schulz so darn much, that I was hoping it was a huge book with lots and lots of pages. Still worth buying, most definitely.

Brief but powerful...kinda

I love Peanuts. This is a brief collection of one-frame wisdoms. Thought-provoking. Don't have too high expectations, but it is still enjoyable.
