Description

"Andre Moubarak takes us for a walk down the Via Dolorosa that opens our eyesto the sufferings of Jesus and the history of Jerusalem. He also givesus great insight into the life and sufferings of our Palestinianbrothers and sisters in Christ. Hated and persecuted by both Jews andMuslims, they find themselves forgotten by Evangelical Christians in the West. This work is chocked full of helpful historical and culturalinformation that enables us to understand Jesus' experience better. Itis enjoyable reading, with vivid descriptions that enable us tovisualize the experience of walking through the fourteen stations of the Via Dolorosa. I recommend Andre's book to anyone planning to visitJerusalem and wanting to understand the significance of the experiencebetter. It is also an excellent resource for those who cannot go, butwant to understand it today." Gary W. Derickson, Ph.D. Professor of Biblical Studies and Greek Department Chair, Bible and Theology Corban University | School of Ministry Salem, Oregon, USA "Andre has made a tremendous impact on our church. His story of growing up on the streets of Jerusalem is powerful, life changing, and one you won't want to miss." --Brandon Beals, Pastor, Canyon Creek Church, Seattle, the UnitedStates "After ten trips to Israel, I've tried many tour guides; Andre is the best, both in teaching and in professional guiding services. As a pastor who specializes in teaching the Bible, I consider Andre my pastor, guide, and instant-answer-man for helping me understand Israel. I am so glad he has put his experience with the Lord in writing. I trust that this book will help many who have walked the Via Dolorosa continue their own journey to the cross with Christ. And if you have never been to Israel, please make this journey to the Holy Land a priority in life. -- 主仆 谢 庆 福 牧 师xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0 REV. SAMUEL SIA , St. Stephen's Parish, Manila, The Philippines "This is a powerful literary work that reveals the times, the country, and the people of the Holy Land, both historically and today. Andre lends personal insights and a wealth of knowledge and revelation about Israel and about Christ. One Friday in Jerusalem takes you to the ancient streets those of us in Andre's tour groups have walked as, led by him, we have encountered the reality and magnitude of the Via Dolarosa. --xa0BISHOP RAYMOND W JOHNSON, Living Faith Christian Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana" "One Friday in Jerusalem is the most refreshing glimpse I have ever had into a Palestinian Maronite Christian's deep personal experiences and spiritual insights. Having lived in Jerusalem, I appreciate Andre's accurate and vivid descriptions of the Via Dolorosa, and I was riveted to the book as I walked each step, gleaning valuable insights. Andre neither defends nor undermines the traditional stations of the cross; rather, he shares an insider's spiritual pilgrimage. His knowledge of history and its importance in understanding Jerusalem's modern conflicts makes this book a must-read. --DONALD L. BRAKE SR., PhD, Dean Emeritus, Multnomah Biblical Seminary, and Author of Jesus, A Visual History: The Dramatic Story of the Messiah in the Holy Land" "Where was Jesus born? What was the place like where He grew up and played? Where did He die? Let's adjust our spiritual eyes and ears to first-century sight and hearing. Then, should you visit this land in person--and I so hope you will--you'll build an even deeper understanding based on the new viewpoint and knowledge you've acquired. This theme drives every tour and is the foundation stone of my teachings. The result is always greater confidence in Jesus's dominion and divinity." From the Inside Flap "Above all, there is hope--great hope. Hope for the people in my community. Hope for this city. And hope for you and your own life, wherever you live. For among the many stories of Jerusalem--those of centuries past and those yet to be written--one story stands above all others. It is the greatest story of all: the story of Jesus, the Son of God, who gave His life that you and I might have life. His power to change hearts and lives is real. I have seen it in my own life and in the lives of others. I have seen natural enemies brought together in their hearts by the Holy Spirit. I have witnessed desperate men and women transformed by the discovery of how much God loves them." "In general, the churches in the West are tremendously blessed and yet so spoiled. They talk, talk, talk, but when it comes to action, they excuse themselves. We indigenous Christians are doing the hard work and still standing, persevering, and carrying our cross daily, even if it costs us our lives. We are your link to reach the Middle East. Please do not forget us or ignore us.We invite you to come visit this land. You will be as safe as if you were walking the sidewalks of your hometown--perhaps even safer--as thousands of visitors from the West will tell you, and you will be in the best of hands. Let us share with you in person our narrative and heritage and help you discover the land in which our common faith is still rooted." Andre Moubarak is the owner and founder of Twins Tours & Travel Ltd. in Israel. Born into a Christian family along the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem's Christian Quarter, Andre today is a licensed tour guide and an ordained minister, leading numerous groups through the Holy Land. Incredible Perspective from a Palestinian Maronite Christian

Andre Moubarak has written a powerful book on the complexities of life in Jerusalem as a Palestinian Christian. He writes from personal knowledge and experience of the the Biblical, spiritual, cultural, political, geographical, and historical importance of this region to our world. His heart, ministry, and spiritual calling to serve and reach all people through his pastoring, speaking engagements, and Tours throughout the Holy Land is a testimony to his faith in Jesus and his love for his country and all humanity. Experiencing discrimination as a minority in Jerusalem only strengthened his faith as he experienced God's miraculous interventions in his life. I highly recommend this book to all.

A must read before you go to Jerusalem!

One Friday In Jerusalem by Andre Moubarak describes the Via Dolorosa route from a Middle Eastern perspective, which is essential to understanding the first century mindset. Also, Moubarak explains that more important than the route itself is the internal spiritual route of walking closer to Jesus. The author skillfully describes the meaning of each station of the cross and then calls the reader to contemplate how to walk his or her own Via Dolorosa in the challenges of everyday daily life. Personally, this book was eye-opening for me and spiritual encouraging.

A Trustworthy Guide

I know Andre personally, and have had the privilege of touring the Holy Lands with him as our guide. Both he and this wonderful book are trustworthy and will serve to open your eyes and mind whether you read it before, during or after your journey to Jerusalem. There are many guide-books and guides, there are few that can so articulately and boldly present their story, appropriately challenge and grow your faith, and lead you through Jerusalem in such a whimsical yet effective manner. I strongly endorse this book, as well as it's author.

Incredible, informative book!

I met Andre back in February when he was my tour guide on a trip in Israel. He is so genuine, and he has such a gift with writing. This book is perfect both if you've visited Israel or haven't visited but have an interest in learning more about Jesus' home and current life in Israel. It's an extremely easy read (I'm not much of a history nut myself!) but found it difficult to put the book down. I would 100% recommend this book. You will walk away more informed about Jesus' life and his final days as well as what it's like to live in Israel today.

A compelling look into the stations of the cross

Andre uses his lifetime of living on the streets of the Via Dolorosa to bring Jesus' journey to his own crucifixion and resurrection to life. He imparts incredible knowledge in the pages of this book while sharing his wisdom of the bible, Israeli and Palestinian history, and the political climate today. Receiving historical background along with the biblical truth of the stations of the cross is extremely helpful. This book is a must read for anyone planning to visit the Holy Land!
