Loved it!!

I found this a truly enjoyable read. Pierce Hutton is a unique character; I can totally relate to his grief for his first wife & his feelings that he is betraying her memory by getting involved w/ Brianne. There is a similarity between Pierce & Garon Grier from "Lawman" in that they both lost their wives to cancer. However, Pierce is a much more sympathetic character. He marries Brianne to protect her from Kurt Brauer & Philippe Sabon but when he attempts to keep her @ arms's length, he is not cruel or vicious as Garon Grier is with Grace Carver.

Brianne is a handful, she's sweet, innocent, smart & brave by turns. When she learns the truth about Philippe, she is very compassionate toward him & they become friends, which makes Pierce jealous & makes for some spectacular fights. Everything works out, though, in true DP fashion.

I can highly recommend this book, along with Lord of The Desert & Paper Rose, which continue the stories of Philippe & Tate Winthrop, respectively.

Not for everyone

I gave this five stars because I did love it and because I can read books nad not expect everything to be real and mostly because Ican omit certain things to better suit me. First off if you can't look past the fact that he is way to old for than you probably won;t like Palmer books, I don't like it, but I do like so much about the book that it just sort of gets ignored.

There is a lot going on and most of it happens in the middle east, and assums that we haven't been harshly awaken to the reality of what goes on there. It was written last milenium so nedles to say there isn't as much hostility as there could be.

Shortly it is about young gilr Brianna who meets Pierce, whos wife died and who wants to join her she unknowingly stops him and when he sees her in Nausa a year later he decides to protect her from her evil stepfather Bruer who wants to force her to marry 'peverted' sabon. He marries her they get kidnapped, we find out all is not what it seems with sabon and with Tate Winthropes help all try to get back to America to stop WWIII, again just forget about what can and can not happen

There are other stories which follow invovling Sabon and Tate which I havent read, but if the idea of reading continuations is your thing start with this one and enjoy

Another forumlaic Palmer release, but yet I still liked it.

Like almost every full-length novel I've read by Palmer, Once in Paris was a fantastic read. It was one of those books where you don't even notice what page you are on because you are so caught up in the characters and the story.

The characters are great - well-rounded, likable and interesting. I really enjoyed Brianne and Pierce's interactions. They had an interesting dynamic with the age difference and Pierce's shattered heart. Their romance was nicely played out. I also liked the introduction of the secondary characters - Tate Winthrop who Palmer features in Paper Rose, and Phillippe Sabon who is featured in Lord of the Desert. I've read Lord of the Desert, so it was nice to read his introduction into Palmer's continuity of characters. And I look forward to reading Tate's story soon.
I enjoyed the storyline as well...the international political intrigue, the suspense and tension. It was a well-thought plot that made sense and kept the reader into the story. And it also turns out that this storyline has a direct connection to things that happen in Lord of the Desert, so it was nice to get the first part of the storyline about Sabon's country.

The thing I have a semi-criticism about is the fact that Palmer once again followed her popular "formula" with the hero being a mid-late thirties, broken guy who doesn't believe in love and marriage, and a female is is rather young, innocent, but brash and vibrant. It's a workable formula, but it would be nice Palmer strayed from it once in a while. It's not really a negative of the book...it didn't take away from the story, I'm just saying that I wouldn't have minded if Palmer had gone with something different.
