Kids like it

If I we're going on my opinion I would give it two stars. There really isn't much to it. I give it five stars though because all of my kids liked it. My five year old kept giggling when I read it to him then he looked through it several times. My four year old liked it. My seven year old is the one I bought it for and she loved it. She isn't the best reader but she was able to read it herself. My eight year old also liked it. My ten year old said it was weird but I think he likes it and didn't want to admit it.

Agender main character

For those who care to know, the characters are agender. I would rather not confuse my 6yo, so we’re tossing this one out. It doesn’t appear to be very well-written either, so I’m not terribly sad.

daughter loved it

My 8 year old daughter was needing books that were more advanced. I saw this and took a chance. I was glad I did. She was able to read the book without too much assistance and is so in love with this book. She loves the illustrations, story and learning about narwhals. She has read this book many times and reads it out loud to her toddler sister, who is also interested in the adorable drawings. My daughter hopes that the book will get a sequel.

Bought as a gift

Bought this as a gift for a 6 year old who loves animals. I cannot attest to how much she enjoyed it, but when I perused the pages I was laughing out loud. The illustrations are great and as mentioned the comics are funny. 6 might be the youngest I would give this book to, younger may enjoy the pictures and stories, but the jokes may be lost on them. Fun for adults and children.

Fun appropriate series.

My daughter loves this book! She is a homeschooled diet grader and she read through this book in about a week (with k my reading a little bit at a time). The only pages she struggled reading were the pages with the technical information about narwhals. She giggle while reading and loved the illustrations. This series is fun and age appropriate. So many early chapter type books have unnecessary “drama” and/or hateful type of language.

She is 7 years old I’m frist grade reading at about a second grade level. We have since read the second book I’m the series in about 3 days and just got the 3rd book but haven’t started it.

Funny, cute, and educational

I was super excited to learn about 'a the Unicorn of the Sea' book. I initially planned on reading it on my Kindle but it looked so cute, I bought a paperback copy. It is part of a new series called 'Narwhal and Jelly'. One of my 'tater tots' loves Narwhal' so this book was perfect for us.

Inside it is laid out like a graphic novel and has really fun illustrations. There is also educational information throughout the story.

We loved 'Narwhal and Jelly's' friendship. We also really loved that their favorite food is waffles!

We had fun reading it and is it perfect for ages 8-10. We plan on getting the others in the series.

Cute, simple, easy to read, and funny

This is a cute little book but somehow just not that riveting to me or my 7-year-old. The book is a graphic novel for younger kids that contains 3 stories. The first story is of Narwhal and Jelly (the jellyfish) meeting and is the best of the three. The narwhal has never seen a jellyfish and the jellyfish has never seen a narwhal so they both believe the other is imaginary and after both fail to convince the other that they are in fact real, they decide to be imaginary friends. Then we have 2 pages on narwhal facts. In the next story we learn that narwhals travel in groups called pods and Narwhal invites multiple different creatures to join his pod and gives them all a horn-like tooth to wear. Jelly is angry and sad not to be asked but then Narwhal tells him that he just assumed that of course he would be in his pod. Then we have jellyfish facts. In the last story, Narwhal shows Jelly his favorite book which turns out to just be empty pages. Then, they create a story together and imagine the pictures on the page. They have so much fun that Jelly asks to borrow the book. Narwhal tells him just not to get the pages wet!

The illustrations are very simple and basic. The book is cute and easy to read. I think young readers will enjoy this but for some reason my 7-year-old did not seem to think it was as funny as I did at times!

She still enjoyed it and for the price

My 9 year old daughter loves Narwhals so I got her this book. I thought it would be more of a chapter book but it's a novelty, cartoonish type of book that she finished quickly. She still enjoyed it and for the price, it was worth it.

who happens to love narwhals and jellyfish

I read this to my 3 year old, who happens to love narwhals and jellyfish, which is why I bought this book. This is probably his first exposure to sequential art and storytelling. He loves it - it's easy for him to follow along when he wants and just to enjoy the drawings and silly banter between the two sea creature friends.
