Description

"Ellis is a multi-talented author who has proven she can write an outstanding suspenseful book while keeping true to her faith and values." --RT Book Reviews "The first of my Secrets of the South Mysteries, Midnight on the Mississippi, allowed me to put years of vacations in the deep South to good use. I've always been fascinated by New Orleans, where despite hurricanes, fires, and floods, time has stood still. I hope you'll enjoy my tale of blackmail, death threats, and sophisticated shell games, as my brand new PI solves a pair of murders in the Big Easy and the black water bayous of home." --Mary Ellis, author Mary Ellis has written twelve award-winning novels set in the Amish community and several historical romances set during the Civil War. Her latest, Midnight on the Mississippi, first of a new mystery series, Secrets of the South, is set in New Orleans. Before "retiring" to write full-time, Mary taught school and worked as a sales rep for Hershey Chocolate, a job with amazingly sweet fringe benefits. Mary enjoys traveling, gardening, bicycling and swimming, and lives in Ohio with her husband, dog and cat. It was Okay.

I only read this book because it was set in New Orleans. We had just visited there and the book brought back our whole trip. That part of the book was great. There were a lot of editing issues. There was no character development. For Nicki to be a professional PI and 25 years old she was really immature and acted like a spoiled child most of the time. When Hunter (her boss) would tell her what he wanted her to do she would the opposite. Hunter wasn't much better. He was "almost" engaged to another woman but was sort of dating Nicki too. When the author was writing about the purpose of the book and trying to find the killer of James and Nicki's father that was all well written. The next book is set in Memphis on Beale Street. We've been there as well. I might read it because of its location.
