Excellent, but not perfect.

I would give it a perfect review, but a few things throughout the series caught my eye.

1. The characters, Ostin in particular, refuse to curse in any situation even when getting directly shot at… I understand the need to censor for young audiences, but let’s be more realistic. I can’t imagine a high school student saying “monkey butts” with imminent doom approaching.

2. A few typos in the book. This could’ve been a copier oversight, I only saw one or two per book, but for those who enjoy searching for grammatical/spelling errors while reading, happy hunting!

3. This is more of a quality of product rather than review of the authors work, but I noticed the corners of some books and a couple pages in others were damaged. The paper “damages” were just corners being folded or slightly torn, and the corner of the hardcovers looked dented.

Overall, excellent read. The “issues” I had were all trivial, aside from lack of realistic dialogue. I would say the censorship made this book appropriate for kids of all ages, but later in the series, it mentions being devoured by rats in detail… several times. Even with the censorship of the dialogue, that would still be too graphic for children.

Best series for young people, but enjoyed by all ages!

I started buying this series when my youngest daughter was around ten. She read every book as soon as she received it. I have read the first four. My youngest is now grown and I just purchased her the 8th book. We have both recently started to re-read the series before beginning the eighth book.

My first grandchild will be ten in April. I have already purchased the box set. Excitingly awaiting an opportunity to read it together.
