Mary Downing Hahn's Haunting Tales

Bought this set for my 10 year old granddaughter because she loved Hahn's Took (which she had purchased at her school's bookfair). We've read Wait Till Helen Comes and are reading All the Lovely Bad Ones. I'm reading them aloud to her...she can easily read them herself, but we both enjoy reading them together. The characters are well-developed and the storyline intriguing and just scary enough.

I purchased this for my 10 year old granddaughter who, and I quote:
" The pages just reach out and grab me, do you know what I mean grandma"!
This is the 1st author other than James Patterson who has captured & retained her attention with wanting more of her books.
Any author who writes like that for a child deserves a 5 star rating and a high five from an avid reader who encourages her grandkids to read and imagine.

While I haven't liked all of Mary Downing Hahn's books her ghost stories here are first wait. The first book in this box set is the tale of a 13 year old girl who mother and aunt always act strange when it come to the lake home they grew up. Especially refusing to talk about the girl cut out of the photo. After much pleading she finally get allowed to spend the summer at the lake house and baby sit her aunt's daughter. Then the girl meet a strange girl who always seen in a swim suit even in the rain and is looking for a forever friend. The questions are what is her secret and how forever does she consider forever.

The 2nd story deals with a widower with a little girl marrying a widow with a older son and daughter. After the family discover Helen's grave behind their new country home the widower's daughter want to spend all her time with her new ghost friend and gets her step siblings in nothing but trouble. Its a matter of saving their new sibling before Helen take things too far.

The final story deals with a pair of prankster trouble makers staying with their grandma's bed and breakfast inn for the summer which has a legend of being haunted. When the kids pretend to be ghosts they disturb the real ghosts haunting the place and the haunting become more scary and dangerous than the kids thought possible as they try to put the restless spirits back to sleep.

My granddaughter who is 10 loves her books.

This is an amazing collection of Mary Downing Hahn ghost stories. I received it for Christmas and it is a wonderful gift. All three books are great, but Wait Till Helen Comes is Hahn's masterpiece.

Three books make a great gift... i like this author since she writes for children but doesnt talk down....i bought these for my grandson yet i like them as well.

They arrives fast even though hurricane sandy was devastating the east, awesome gift for my kid! She got hooked reading Mary Downing Hahn's books around Halloween.

She's in my top five favorite authors list, for ghosts and hauntings she hits the spot. R.L Stine being my first, Christopher Pike, Diane Hoh and others are amazing at telling spooky stories.
