Long Way Back

Exactly where does one start, when you've come across such a treasure. I have my short list of life's favorites; Bikes, Movies, Books, Places, etc., ...and this book just made the top of my list. As I sit here trying to put into words just how amazing this read is, I'm at a loss on how exactly to do it justice. What I can say is this, ...being a motorcyclist myself, and lover of all things two wheeled, I COULD NOT put this book down. The first day I received it from Amazon, I started reading it. And at 320-pages, I found myself over half way through the book before forcing myself to put it aside so that I could go to bed. But truth be told, ...I didn't want to. I felt as though through this entire read that I was right there, ...right by Charley's side. I could picture everything so vividly based on what he had written. Its just such an amazing read. I own both of the Long Way Series on DVD, and have eagerly watched each one from beginning to end no less than a dozen times each. I never get tired of either, even though I know them both by heart. I had the privilege and honor of meeting Charley once a few years back at IMS in Long Beach, CA. I realize he must have met hundreds, if not thousands of fans that weekend, but it truly made the show for me to get to meet him. I would have loved to hit the Irish bar across the street from the convention center, and talk bikes all day long. In addition to being a huge motorcycle enthusiast, I've had two major crashes throughout my own life, and could relate to Charley's story in so many ways, and on so many different levels. From the hospital and the surgeries, to the external fixator and physical therapy, ...I've been their myself first hand. Maybe thats one of the reasons this book hit home with me. The bottom line is this, if you're a fan of Charley, or of his adventures, consider this book a must read. You will not be disappointed. And in closing, ...if your eyes should ever come across this review here on Amazon Charley, ...I would just like to say thank you. It's truly one of, if not the best book I've read to date.

Loved this book. Charley had a tough and scary year coming back from his accident. He tells his story in great style. Cringed, laughed, enjoyed the read. Olly, his wife, is an amazing woman.

A truly wonderful and inspiring book. If you’re a fan of the Long Way series where Charley and Ewan McGregor travel the world on GS1200s then you’ll love this book. This book made me laugh and it made me sad at times but it is a true testament to ones own personal strength to overcome adversity. I have lots of admiration for Charley from watching the Long Way series but this book took it to an entire new level. I learned a lot about him I didn’t know before. He has led an extraordinary life thus far.

I have followed Charley and Ian's travels all over the world, and as a fellow motorcyclist, I feel an affinity for their passion. I watched and read about Charley on the Paris to Dakar (different locations now) and watched all the Long Way series, more than once. Charley is a rascal, his language is not family friendly, but I enjoy his passion for life as well as his realistic view of the world, and his extreme riding adventures. I feel like I know him because he is very raw and real in his writing, and while he might never be my best friend, I enjoy hearing about what he is going to do next....and he always surprises me.

Charley's style is so genuine and authentic. You like him the minute you start.

Very well told personal account of compromises one woman had to make to survive a 5 year tour of duty between 1995-2000 as a young officer on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Nicole spent years writing this book out of a compassion to tell her story so that other young women and men considering a career in the U.S. Navy will be cautioned about possible consequences. Nicole recently told her story at the Community Church of Boston, the historical peace and social justice church situated in Copley Square, downtown Boston.

Charlie Boorman does it again!! Great read for anyone wanting to know what happened to him!

Like finding Charley Boorman in the seat next to you on a long plane trip. "Oh yeah, I was telling you about my accident." Uses the recovery from his motorcycle accident as a structure on which to hang zillions of fun stories. It sounds like the irrepressible Charley from Long Way Round and Long Way Down. (If you have not seen them, watch them all the way through before reading the book.) As a rider, I took as the moral of the story "Always have an escape route --- and a stone wall does not count as an escape route." My wife saw the two video series with me and enjoyed the book, skipping over the "motorcycle stuff." I enjoyed the motorcycle stuff a lot and thought about skipping the medical stuff, but I felt it would be bad karma as a rider. The other gestalt from the book is that his wife Olly is an angel from heaven and a saint to put up with him.

Great book, quite enjoyable.

Great read! Flows as if Charley is talking to you. Claims he's dyslexic, but you can't tell from reading the book.
