Couldn't finish

I made it as far as 14%. Most obnoxious characters I've seen this early in a book. Emmett is a HUGE jerk! His oldest son was too. After the son let Melody's cat out of her apartment, I couldn't go any further. I didn't read the second book because I didn't like the first one. I don't like to leave a bad review because I could never write a book myself, but if I can't go any further in a book, I'm going to say why.

It is 25 years old and more like 180 pages than 384

The information Amazon gives on this book is incorrect. It is 25 years old and more like 180 pages than 384. It is a typical series romance for the time. Not Palmer's best effort.

Easy read, strong family issues

I can understand those who had problems with this book...anyone who has been through family problems, either as a child or as a parent, might identify too much with the characters to be comfortable with the story.
I enjoyed the story even though I had a difficult time comprehending how Emmett jumped from jerk to Mr. Wonderful in the story. Guess a knock on the head can work wonders. There is also a spot where a cat is turned loose by a vengeful child...spoiler alert - it is returned.
This publisher is notorious for renaming and republishing every so many years. Knowing this I am cautious and read the samples...if it sounds familiar, I pass. The other downside to the author is by dragging up early works - a reader gets a poor opinion of the writer’s skill...the sample at the end of this work is a key example of this. After reading it, there is no way I would pick up that novel or others - if I were not a fan of Diana’s current novels. I think I have read high school stories with better skills than the sample exhibited. Diana should really object to it being attached to this story.
In closing, I would recommend this book, but not if you have past family issues - it might hit too close to home.

Read this book for a second time and loved it as much as the first time. It's a funny one. Will probably read it again.

Long Tall Texans: Emmett

In my opinion the worst story she ever wrote, the usual pattern guy in his 30's and a girl just out of teens. Barely a hint of a plot mainly chapter after chapter practically phonographic.
