Description

PRAISE FOR THE HOLLOW BOY *". . .Stroud brings his considerable storytelling skills to bear in this riveting sequel to The Screaming Staircase and The Whispering Skull. . .the narrative has excellent pacing, fine descriptive passages, and a wry sense of humor. An unexpected development at the story's end will leave fans wildly impatient for volume four."-- Booklist (starred review) PRAISE FOR THE SCREAMING STAIRCASE "Stroud shows his customary flair for blending deadpan humor with thrilling action, and the fiery interplay among the three agents of Lockwood & Co. invigorates the story (along with no shortage of creepy moments)." -- Publishers Weekly PRAISE FOR THE CREEPING SHADOW "Stroud's scene setting and storytelling are second to none, but it's his ability to create credible, idiosyncratic characters and relationships that creates avid fans of the Lockwood & Co. series."-- Booklist (starred review) PRAISE FOR THE WHISPERING SKULL "Stroud shows his customary flair for blending deadpan humor with thrilling action, and the fiery interplay among the three agents of Lockwood & Co. invigorates the story (along with no shortage of creepy moments)."-- Publishers Weekly PRAISE FOR THE SCREAMING STAIRCASE "A pleasure from tip to tail, this is the book you hand the advanced readers that claim they'd rather read Paradise Lost than Harry Potter . Smart as a whip, funny, witty, and honestly frightening at times, Stroud lets loose and gives readers exactly what they want. Ghosts, kids on their own without adult supervision, and loads of delicious cookies." -- Elizabeth Bird, School Library Journal PRAISE FOR THE SCREAMING STAIRCASE "This story will keep you reading late into the night, but you'll want to leave the lights on. Stroud is a genius at inventing an utterly believable world which is very much like ours, but so creepily different. Put The Screaming Staircase on your 'need to read' list!" -- Rick Riordan PRAISE FOR THE WHISPERING SKULLL *"An occult portal and its spectral guardian nearly cut short the careers of three rising young ghost hunters in this madcap sequel to The Screaming Staircase (2013). For all their internecine squabbling, the three protagonists make a redoubtable team-and their supporting cast, led by the sneering titular skull in a jar, adds color and complications aplenty. Rousing adventures for young tomb robbers and delves into realms better left to the dead." -- Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Jonathan Stroud (www.jonathanstroud.com) is the author of four previous books in the Lockwood & Co. series as well as the New York Times bestselling Bartimaeus books, and the stand-alone titles Heroes of the Valley, The Leap, The Last Siege , and Buried Fire . He lives in England with his wife and three children.

Love this series!

I watched the Netflix series "Lockwood & Co" and loved the story and characters so much that I wanted to read the books. The books are slightly different from the series, but I love them both. Well written and even though it says its for young readers, I am older than that and enjoyed it very much.

Great book, bad shipping

The book is great, but, it's paperback and Amazon shipped it in an envelope, and the book got beat up during shipping. Can we get away from doing everything at the absolute cheapest, easiest way and try to get back to customer service. Put it in a box! At least give us a choice of packaging options. I would pay more for better shipping materials.

New Condition, becomes Damaged

By the time I came by mail it wasn’t new, the front of the cover had been dog eared and it had been damaged on the back.

Just be careful if buying a new condition book 📖

The kind of book parents hope to find for their young adult readers!

Set in London, powerfully deep character tropes (with strong loyalty and honesty) take this well-crafted plot and weave an adventure so rich for the YA reader. It had us reading into second and finally purchasing ALL books in this series. The thematic element of female empowerment is woven so well into the story that it encourages male and female readers.
If you’re a parent, searching for QUALITY, ENGAGING (non-smutty) solid 400 page (yet fast paced) novels, in a series that enthrals while educating through rich language and powerful morals— look no further. Books of this nature aren’t easily found today.
As a home schooling parent & educator of a young high-school student, I’m pleased to review this series for other families looking for books in engaging, quality crossover genres: mysterious, paranormal thrillers.
The vocabulary is even enriching and adds an additional element of pleasure to reading. The books are full of mystery, depth, reason and fantasy. Author combines humor and a well-crafted plot to create a series of book readers won’t soon forget.

Fun creepy read, great for early teens !

A book my 13y-old and I read together, we have so far loved the whole series, and habe now finished the fourth installment.
Once out of Lockwood agency, Lucy works as a freelance agent. After months of estrangement, Lockwood contacts her to ask for help in a big case: from then on, the theft of the Skull, an attempt on Lucy's life, and the discovery of a connection between a big agency and some obscure bussines of stolen relics, make events precipitate, and force our protagonists to go further than they thought possible...
Now that we are familiar with Lockwood and Co's universe, the author takes us to some new scenarios, deepening in the dark secrets hidden by the main agencies and taking eeriness to a new level (specially in the last part). And, as always, adventure, escalating action, humour, and tea breaks.
As it's usual with Stroud, the emotional part is touching but also pretty contained, and as wisely done as in the previous books; it just shows Lucy's efforts to get along again with the people she cares for (not just Lockwood), and how they react.
And, of course, a juicy revelation adds to the plot in the very last page (guess who makes it?), which hints that from now on, alive enemies will be even more dangerous than dead ones... My 13y-old rates it: Amazing book, twists galore, creepy, super interesting, great storyline, overall I loved this book : I give it 5 of 5 stars
