3.5 stars - Starts out great but turns too dark as the story progresses

Daisy and Simon longed for a child and were eventually blessed with their miracle baby, Millie. However, things are not how they appear on the surface, and Daisy and Simon are each lying to the other one. Things aren’t perfect in their marriage, but they get by. Then tragedy strikes, and everything changes. Will this family ever be able to find happiness again?

This book started out great and I was immediately engaged in the story. I liked that as the story unfolded, the reader was able to see things from both Daisy and Simon’s point of view. I really enjoyed the first half of the book and liked Daisy’s sense of humor. For me, things went downhill in the second part of the book. Daisy was so passive and judgmental through much of it and the story grew very dark. Many of the scenes with Daisy and her old acquaintance from her university years are hard to read. I also had a hard time figuring her friend Connie out. I couldn’t tell if she always meant well or not. Simon and Daisy each had their own demons they were fighting, but their daughter Millie is the true victim in the story and what she had to go through is heartbreaking.

The book touches on many themes including honesty, dishonesty, friendship, self-esteem, alcoholism, prison life, and domestic abuse. That is a lot to tackle for a thriller and I didn’t enjoy the darker aspects of the story at all. As the book begins to draw to a close, one bombshell after another is dropped even up to the very end. Some are shocking and interesting, some horrible, and others just hard to believe. With less darkness and fewer over-the-top reveals, this could have been a great thriller but when the book ended, I was shaking my head instead of feeling I had been entertained. However, there are a lot of good points to the book including character growth on the part of Simon, so I would try other books by this author. Ultimately, this one wasn’t for me.

Infertility with more

I knew starting off with this book during the first page they rolled it out with speaking on infertility. As this is a Lot of the book as it also isn’t; that already hit home for me as someone who also struggles. The book was NOT what I was expecting it to be, however. Coming to the end of the book and the last 30-50 pages when you typically have an idea of how a book is gonna and, I honestly had NO idea. I thought we already knew everything we could possibly know and wasn’t sure what else could be in those last pages. Big surprise at the end that rang it in for me! Definitely a must read, but not for the faint of heart.

Interesting tale

(3.5)
This book is one that you keep thinking you know what's going on until you realize you didn't. Then you think you do again only to learn that you don't.
Millie is the answer to the prayers of long married couple Simon and Daisy. They struggled to have a child and finally they have Millie. Things are going fairly well. Millie loves dance and is quite popular. She's a very happy child. Simon may drink a bit but he's still a great father. Unfortunately, Simon stumbles upon something and the drinking gets worse. One night things boil over and a devastating tragedy occurs. Things will never be the same again and this is just about where the story really begins...
I can't tell you much about this book because it is a thriller and it does go all over the place. You get thrown around a bit from here to there with things coming out of nowhere to leave your jaw hanging open and your head needing a little scratch. There were times I wasn't sure how things were adding up but they do. You just have to pay attention. This is a slow moving story until all of a sudden it is anything but!
The writing is great in this book. I liked it and would recommend giving it a shot if you are at all interested in anything you've read in any reviews you've seen or from the books synopsis. It's definitely an interesting read.

Creative presentation , thought provoking

So, where do I begin with this review? I had some very mixed reactions to this book and in the end that is why it gets 5 stars from this reader.

I'm not going to say much about the details of the plot because the manner of reveal of the details is super important to the enjoyment of this story. Simon and Daisy seem to have an idyllic marriage, but there are some cracks starting to form. Simon's desire for a sibling for daughter Millie pushes this already-tense marriage to a breaking point and ends up with disastrous consequences.

The first half of this book is slow moving. Nothing much happens and I was a bit annoyed. Based on the title of the book, I was expecting some big revelations, but it doesn't get delivered quite like that. The story really takes off around mid-point and the last half has me turning the pages and getting surprised a few times. Once I got to the end, I did like the creative way the story was presented to me as a reader.

What really made me love this book are the questions that this story asks, especially about secrets, lies and motivations. It's the type of book you want to read with someone else and then discuss and I really enjoyed that about Lies,Lies, Lies. I wasn't expecting that sort of book and it was a pleasant surprise. A few days after finishing it, I'm still thinking about Simon and Daisy's actions. To me, that's the sign of a five star read. The book has stuck with me.

This is my first book from this author and I will be on the lookout for more in the future.

An ARC was provided. This is my honest review.

3.5 Stars

I had heard so many great things around this one and heard it turned really dark towards the middle/end. This was a pretty good thriller that definitely kept my interest the whole time. It does deal with issues around substance abuse and domestic violence. So be aware of this when going in.

This did get a little dark, but I was expecting it based on others reviews. Overall, I ended up enjoying this one and look forward to reading more from this author.
