Description

★★★★★ "Mike Slavin has written a roller-coaster of a novel in Kill Crime . The story goes from 0 to 100 when Jeff Case, an oil company businessman from Texas, finally catches a pedophile that he'd been chasing ever since his niece had been victimized. Jeff finds himself getting closer to becoming a vigilante, as criminals hurt his friends and the people he loves. The choices only get tougher, and the villains he chases only get more dangerous. Will he survive?Kill Crime is an exceptionally thrilling novel. The book starts with the main character catching a man about to molest a young child, I thought this was pretty extreme for the first 30 pages, but things only escalate for Jeff Case. This acceleration, and the realism with which it happens, is where Slavin's writing excels. He makes Jeff's decisions seem probable and reasonable through his amazing descriptions of grief, pain and anger. There are many times in the book when I felt angry alongside Jeff, almost to the point of being blinded by it. Some will want him to exact his revenge and go for the kill, but maybe some will be begging him to move on. It's a thrilling read from cover to cover because of this struggle that the reader faces with the main character, and it will keep the pages turning. If the internal conflict doesn't entice readers, then the action sequences certainly will. The tense, violent moments are written excellently and play out like some of the best big screen movies. If there is one weakness in the story, it's that some of the elements border on cliché, such as Case jamming out to "Danger Zone" on his way home from work. However, Slavin only flirts with this line and never seriously crosses it, which he manages by keeping the story believable and emotionally raw.The language that Slavin utilizes is fantastic. His writing is never boring, and the sentences he composes are fluid and natural, which makes for a smooth read. He may have gone a little overboard with the text breaks, but it doesn't hamper the writing. I'll definitely be looking forward to the next installment. This is especially true, thanks to the couple of nice little hints at where the Jeff Case story might be heading in the sequel."- Literary Titan

Vigilante justice

This is a writer who has a good working knowledge of the oil lease business, sniper weaponry and Las Vegas gambling. These features add to his story telling in a genuine way. The novel is meant for fans of the vigilante justice sub genre of the crime genre. I would have joined the other 5 star reviewers except I strongly suggest the author work on his craft and his editors work with him to bring that part of his game up to the level of the story invention.

Excellent new crime thiriller vigilante justice fiction

Mike Slavin has written a very very good first novel Slavin picks up the vigilante-justice, crime thriller genre with a fastmoving, exciting plot that moves from Texas to Las Vegas and back. Jeff Case, the hero of this novel, is a flawed West Point graduate, combat veteran and former US Army Special Forces officer. Inn the first chapter, the reader follows Case as he speeds along a Texas highway to stop a pedophile. Case accidently witnesses the murder of the author who wrote KILL CRIME, a a best-selling how-to book about normal, everyday people killing murderers and getting away with it. Case is a veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq, who made his fortune in the oil business in four years after leaving military service and found the love of his life and has an infant son. Then things change tragically fast. He turns into a highly-trained force of vigilante justice, when criminal low-life end up killing his wife and infant son during a bungled robbery at a quick mart. Then, within just a few pages his best friend, former SF Team-mate and now police Lieutenant is killed when he is visiting his friend and answers Case’s front door. So, in two short days he has lost the three most important people in his life. And when the local police are not making any real progress in solving these murders, he hires a private investigator and links up with one of his old SF A-team mates, and plans for ultimate justice. The action and dialogue are excellent. Several twists and turns and Slavin twists together these several murders into a coherent and intriguing tale. The plot moves along at a steady pace, intermixed with some poignant flashbacks. Once you start this book, it is very hard to put down. So I was glad to have started this during the hospital slow-down from coronavirus, reading it over a weekend. I need to go back now and read the pre-quel LIFE-CHANGING MONEY. Perhaps during the self-quarantine of mature adults, SLAVIN will be able to finish BOOK #2 in the Jeff Cse series. I agree with other readers who compare Slavin with Michael Connelly, Robert Crais and Lee Child. For me, I would also recommend Mike Slavin to those readers who like some of my favorites like Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, Tim Tigner, and Jason Kasper.

One of the Best Crime Novel's I've ever read!

Jeff Case is a multidimensional hero who the author Mike Slavin gives some of his own traits, including being a West Point grad. However, when Case is confronted with a series of events, he turns to revenge killings. There's nothing Case can't do but he assembles a team and the results have to be read to be believed. Amazing.
This is a wonderful read, with raw emotions and strong action scenes. It's all you could want in a crime novel. Lee Child is retired, Mike Slavin is in his prime.

If you love murder mysteries, get this book!

Kill Crime is the first book I read by Mike Slavin. It did not disappoint, a great murder mystery. Fast-paced and intense If I could, I would've done the same as Jeff Cases did. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Life-changing money. If it's anything like Kill Crime, it's going to be a good read!

I can see why people like it

I can see why people like this book: action, a heroic protagonist, the works -- but admittedly it wasn't for me. It was a bit too reminiscent of Jack Reacher, a series that I love, and it was hard to get past the idea that this was just a Jack Reacher knock-off. The writing style wasn't my favorite and the plot was a bit too unpredictable.

Gritty and real

The writing was so good that I could clearly envision the story being played in head. I imagined the grittiness and intensity of Breaking Bad.
