Description

From Booklist You can’t go home again. But Kat does, after 10 years, to her Louisiana hometown, which is ironically named Liberty. Kat, founder of a successful chain of organic bakeries, returns to this unwelcoming town despite her acquittal of murder, not just to look back before moving forward, as she tells her cousin, but also because she is driven to, at last, find the killer of her sister, Sara. It’s no easy task, and acting police chief Luke Tanner—whose father, the former chief, was convinced of her guilt, is her only ally. Spindler (Blood Vines, 2010) heads each new chapter and its subheads with dates, times, and speaker’s name as needed, solidly orienting the reader in a complex tale rife with shifting time-frames and different speakers’ points of view. As Kat’s investigation deepens, risks multiply; knotted threads, inevitably about money, gradually untangle; and Spindler suspensefully strips away layers of deceit and guilt, revealing years of secrets and silences. Diverting and entertaining. --Whitney Scott “Spindler's chilling novels explore our deepest fear--that danger is closer than we think. She is a master of addictive suspense.” ― Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times bestselling author “Filled with more twisted, dark paths than an ancient cemetery, Watch Me Die is a thriller guaranteed to chill your blood and set your teeth on edge.” ― Lisa Jackson “[A] gripping romantic suspense thriller . . . The plot takes numerous twists and turns until reaching the startling conclusion.” ― Publishers Weekly on Watch Me Die “Atmospheric, with new Orleans color . . . A fast-paced suspense with a little romance thrown in.” ― RT Book Reviews (4 stars) on Watch Me Die New York Times bestselling author ERICA SPINDLER has written thirty novels, including Watch Me Die , Blood Vines , Breakneck , and Last Known Victim. GOING HOME TO SEEK JUSTICE: ONE WOMAN'S QUEST

Ten years after she is acquitted for her sister's murder, Katherine McCall returns home to Liberty, Louisiana, knowing full well that almost everyone there believes that she "got away with murder."

Determined to prove them wrong, and to find justice for her sister, Kat is on the trail of some clues that she follows, along with Acting Police Chief, Luke Tanner, who does not believe she is guilty. His father, however, is equally determined to prove that he was not mistaken all those years ago. Will he finally acknowledge his mistakes?

And will Kat be able to uncover the truth? Will repeated vandalism of her property, a fire, and thwarted efforts to buy property for her business succeed in frightening her away from her quest? What character flaws will be revealed about some of the town's leaders?

The story flashes back and forth between 2003--the year of the murder--and 2013, revealing bits and pieces of various individuals' activities then and now. As we close in on finding the true killer, the pages turn more rapidly. Numerous possible suspects had me guessing and wondering, but the final reveal had more layers than I had expected, and the surprises were very satisfactory. [[ASIN:125001252X Justice for Sara]] had a nice mix of mystery and romance. Five stars.

doesn't do her justice

I did enjoy the book, read it thru till the end and hated to put it down at times. I'm a big Erica Spindler fan from way back. Having said that, once you eliminated the obvious, I had a strong hunch about the who done it .. can't say too much lest I be accused of being a spoiler.. like on another post.. where a literary lynch mob came after me.. I also found a couple of premises hard to swallow.. after the unsolved brutal murder of her only sister... she returns to the same house .. for what closure? I wouldn't have spent one night in that house.. and she has come with the idea that she's going to open up a health food bakery in this same town ... why? All in all, an enjoyable read , not her best.

Formulaic, Nothing new here, guessed killer very early

This was a very formulaic, paint-by-numbers novel. I don't know why female authors keep writing romance novels and calling them thrillers. This wasn't thrilling at all and this author is on my DO NOT READ list now. Just my opinion. I'm surprised at all the 5-star reviews. There's nothing new here.
