Hot half naked guy + cute dog = winner!

3.5 stars

Well let's be honest, it's the cover that drew me in at first. Hot half naked guy + cute dog = winner! Then reading that synopsis, I knew I needed to get my hands on this book and it did not disappoint at all.

There were a lot of things that took me by surprise and plenty of original twists. Weird ex-boyfriend with stalking tendencies isn't a first, but if you couple that with Shay's past and the drama that James unintentionally brings to her front door, it makes for one hell of a ride.

It has all the elements for a great read, one hot hero cop, one cute/badass dog, one fierce heroine and plenty of drama to keep it all going. This may seem like it's been done before, but I'm telling you this is not the fluffy read you think it will be. Personally I love that combination of romance and mystery/suspense. If done well, it adds a whole other, deeper level to the story and D.D. Ayres was able to this amazingly.

I don't want to give away anything about the story, because then the mystery would be ruined. Just know that James and Shay are great, but also more complex characters than you realize at first. Bogart is also amazing. I have to admit adding dogs to a story can only be considered a positive thing. The story on it's own definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what in the world can possibly happen next and then the author just goes for it.

It was okay.

Shay Appleton has the worst luck EVER! I couldn’t believe how many horrible things that have happened to this poor girl. She’s got so much baggage; I wish Delta would lose some of it to give her a break! But Shay has a core of steel and despite the raw deal she keeps getting, she fights to keep her head held high.

James is a total alpha male who quickly falls for the spitfire. When confronting Shay for “stealing” his dog, he is equally aggravated and amused by Shay’s raised chin and her fight to keep Bogart. Bogart has become attached to Shay and is reluctant to leave Shay’s side when James comes to take him home. It’s not long until Bogart’s people start falling for each other amidst a plethora of obstacles.

I really enjoyed Necessary Force, the prequel novella, and I am excited about the premise of the series. Irresistible Force was a good follow-up but I felt that there was too much going on; I would have liked the drama/suspense more localized. I didn’t feel there was a balance between the romance and the suspense. All the bad things that were happening to Shay really overshadowed the chemistry between the couple making it hard to relate to them.

Bogart and his relationships with Shay and James were my favorite scenes in the book. I also enjoyed the introduction to Yardley Summers, the tough-as-nails kennel owner and K-9 trainer. We are treated to a brief glimpse but I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of her. I’m looking forward to her story.

Overall, the book was okay. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t enjoy the story more, but that won’t discourage me from checking out future installments of the series.

Prince Bogart! ;)

lets start off with this.
im a HUGE animal lover, especially dogs. so to be able to read a book where the dog is basically a main character was awesome. Bogart absolutely has a major part in this, if not him being the sole purpose, and he definitely has a personality.

It all starts off with James looking for his partner and best friend Bogart. They are a K-9 police team and James took the loss of Bogart very hard. He kept up his search for a month and finally finds him with Shay.

Shay recently adopted Prince AKA Bogart and has formed a bond with the dog. She feels better protected with his presence and takes it very hard when James confronts her, accusing her of theft, and demands his K-9 back.

Shay releases him back to James but not without a fight. After speaking with the local police James drives by Shay's place again, he feels guilty about taking Bogart away and wants to give her the proper goodbye both woman and dog need. What he finds is something unexpected. Shay being harrassed by a man. Now James is curious enough to want to understand Shay and her need to have Prince/Bogart as protection.

As they form a relationship Shay must deal with her past and understand that not everyone is against her. James is in it to win it. He is an amazing man who doesn't give up when the woman he is interested in is a little more than difficult. Shay is definitely a paranoid headstrong woman with reason.

can they both deal with crazy exes and get things straightened out and be together? yes, but not without a huge fight. but both believing the other is worth it is what MAKES it worth it.

Love James and Shay....You will too!

I really enjoyed this book. The K-9, Bogart, was a great star in this book. It is always fascinating to read about the hows and whys of a dog becoming a police dog. James Cannon is the dog's partner and is angry when the dog goes missing. Intent on finding Bogart takes him to Shay Appleton.

Shay is a woman on the run and trying to start over. Each time she thinks she is safe the past catches up with her. She finally thinks she is safe and even rescues a beautiful dog to keep her company and keep her safe. That is how Shay and James meet. The dog she rescued turns out to be Bogart.

This is just the beginning of this story .....there is so much more. Shay never realizes the danger she is in.... and ... you will just have to read this book to find out more.
