Features & Highlights

  • With family tensions intensifying in Tinker’s Cove, part-time reporter Lucy Stone could really use some time off the grid. But after she RSVPs to an unconventional celebration on remote Holiday Island, Lucy realizes that disconnecting from reality comes at a deadly price . . .
  • Lucy doesn’t know what to expect as she arrives on a private Maine island owned by eccentric billionaire Scott Newman, only that the exclusive experience should make for a very intriguing feature story. An avid environmentalist, Scott has stripped the isolated property of modern conveniences in favor of an extreme eco-friendly lifestyle. A trip to Holiday Island is like traveling back to the nineteenth Century, and it turns out other residents aren’t exactly enthusiastic about living without cell service and electricity . . . Before Lucy can get the full scoop on Scott, she is horrified to find one of his daughters dead at the bottom of a seaside cliff. The young woman’s tragic end gets pinned as an accident, but a sinister plot unfolds when there’s a sudden disappearance . . . Stuck on a clammy island with murder suspects aplenty, the simple life isn’t so idyllic after all. Now, Lucy must tap into the limited resources around her to outwit a cold-blooded killer—before it’s lights out for her next!

Would be five stars with a better ending!

Invitation Only Murder starts off a bit slow, but turns into an engaging and interesting take on the "locked door mystery" - this iteration on an island, with a bit of an And Then There Were None vibe. Unfortunately, the ending gave me whiplash. Truly, this would be the best Lucy Stone novel in awhile if the last thirty pages were scrapped and the ending was reimagined.

Lucy Stone is not an action hero. She's a mother, a pillar of her community, a journalist and was a strong and likable protagonist. I'd like to see her portrayed as she was in the earlier stories. I love to see growth in a character, but it needs to be believable and logical.

Still, I'll be grabbing the next book in the series when it comes out later this year. I'm invested in (the good, the bad, and the ugly) the Stone family and I'm hoping the books return to form soon!

Intriguing!

Intriguing book! Scott Newman has bought a nearby island and returned it to 19th Century living. Lucy wants to do a story for the Pennysaver and goes to the island for a visit. The day after her arrival, one of Scott’s adult daughters is found dead at the bottom of a cliff. Later, his younger sons disappear after going on a scavenger hunt. It is clear that something is not right with this family. Everyone seems to have secrets and Lucy is almost fearful for her life. Things come to a head once the boys are found. Very intriguing with lots of secrets and twists. I look forward to more of Lucy’s adventures and hope to see more of her friends and family in the next book as well as Tinker’s Cove.

Good mystery

It was great mystery and can be read as a standalone. However, though the story was complete without the back story, I still felt a bit disconnected from the characters. Otherwise the reader gets everything you love about readng a cozy mystery.

a great addition to this series. A wonderful sleuth set on a private island with lots of intrigue

This is the 26th Lucy Stone Mystery by cozy author Leslie Meier. I have read most of the series and enjoy this series always with a fun sleuth, great charcters and fun settings that are pleasing to read. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity.
My review opinions are my own.

In this next in series our beloved protagonist and reporter Lucy Stone has enough tension in her life to send her happily accepting a invitation to a unique vacation on a private island in Maine.. The island is owned by a billionaire who has made the island Eco friendly and does not have modern conveniences. Many of the arriving guests did not know this and are not happy when they arrive.

As tensions rise on the island among the guests one of the owner's daughters is found murdered. At the same time the radio's and all contact with shore is cut off suspiciously. Now Lucy must solve this mystery to jump in to give the owner peace in his daughter's passing as well as save herself and the other guest.

Another fun book in the series with all our favorite charcters. Well done to the author.

What’s not to like about this book?

What’s not to like about this book? Leslie Meier has provided another winning installment in the Lucy Stone series. Reporter Lucy Stone has been invited to visit and write about an Island owned by an eccentric billionaire who rejects modern-day living in favor of an eco-lifestyle a la the 19th century. The island is 10 miles off the shore of Tinker Cove. Lucy arrives on the Island excited to spend a few days relaxing and writing. Soon the excitement gives way to horror. One of the billionaire’s daughters is found dead be the seaside. All the boats off the Island have been destroyed and there is no way to call or radio for help. This is a fast-paced and gripping mystery until the explosive end.
