Easy explanation of impeachment

I am not going to write a wild-eyed diatribe on why I think President Trump should be impeached. I'm going to review former US solicitor Neal Katyal's new book - written in three weeks - "Impeach: The Case Against Donald Trump". Yes, I think Trump should be impeached and convicted - the key word here is "convicted", because two presidents have been impeached by the House but not convicted by the Senate, so they didn't leave office. And, yes, Neal Katyal and Sam Koppelman believe in the same thing, and wrote this book to explain to the political and legal laymen that the process to impeach would be.

Katyal examines the history of impeachment as it was formed in James Madison’s “Federalist No. 51”, stating “If all men were angels, there would be no need for government”. He follows through the impeachments (but no convictions) of Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Then he goes on to the case of President Donald Trump.

Neal Katyal is a good writer and explains the “Pence Standard”, which was Congressman Mike Pence’s ideas in 2008 about the who’s and what’s of impeachment. Funnily enough, they cover today’s reasons quite nicely as Katyal lays out the facts against Trump.

At this point, we have just finished the first part of the impeachment inquiry. It’s Thanksgiving 2019 and we’re going to be gathered with friends and family, where at many tables, the political talk will be fast and furious. I do think Neal Katyal’s book will help the pro-impeachmenters explain their reasons. And, of course, going forward.

Required reading for those who care about American democracy.

Excellent, clear explanation of the case for impeachment of trump. Any fool can make something seem very complex, but it takes real intelligence and expertise to clearly explain a highly technical subject to a lay audience. Neal Katyal makes the legal and constitutional case with the utmost clarity. This is a must read for anyone concerned about preserving American Democracy.

A book that should be distributed free by Tom Stayer

Simple and concise, just like our constitution. Lays out the case for impeachment in lay terms that even Bill Barr, if he hadn't sold his soul to the devil, would understand. My message to fellow Republican citizens : Trump does not represent you, nor does he work for you. He works for himself. Get rid of this guy and we will both live to fight another day.

Excellent Analysis and Case for Manufacturing Crimes!!!

No one is above the law, not even the President. The President, if they are disliked, is below the law and presumed guilty even when proved innocent. This Case Against Donald Trump perfectly outlines that the thinking behind impeaching him no matter what. In most cases, evidence is required to bring charges against someone, and an actual crime is also needed. In the case of Donald Trump, none of that is needed. "Parody" transcripts, people's feelings, and speculation of what he could have done is more than enough to create a legal case to remove an elected President from office. We must protect our democratic ideals and our democratic institution from voters electing someone that Democrats don't like. If we don't impeach presidents who belongs to a different party than the one in control of the House of Representatives, what chance does our great republic have?

Gift Recipient Read it Cover to Cover

I haven't read it, but my stepfather, who I gifted it to, read it cover to cover over the few days he was staying with us. He must have loved it, because he often told the rest of the family about passages he was reading. He thought it was very enlightening and current.

Provides valuable context for understanding why Trump must be impeached and convicted

Take the time to read the comments from those who gave this book one star. Either they didn't read it or they do not believe that the United States of American, as constituted, is a concept worth defending.
