There are a few inappropriate words thrown in

My kids loved the book and I also enjoyed it very much. I just don't believe a children's book should have foul language. It was really not necessary.

Approved by my 8 year old!

My 8 yr old son read it on his own. He liked it but some parts were a bit gross and scary for him. It is along the lines of the I Survived books. He said it was a good story because it was based on real life even though some of the parts were a little scary.

Great Short Story of the USS Indianapolis and the Aftermath

This was a great read about the USS Indianapolis and a 16-year-old sailor onboard. This story concisely explains what happened to the USS Indianapolis after the ship was bombed by the Japanese. Mistakes were made on the part of the Navy and American lives were lost so this story isn’t well known in history, I guess it was buried. This book does a good job of telling what happened and detailing the mistakes that were made that cost lives. A great adventure tale of survival. Great follow up story about a 12-year-old who set the story right and shows how young people can be real heroes too.

An action-packed, tense read from cover to cover

Josh became a WW2 sailor to avenge his father's death at Pearl Harbour. But when a Japanese torpedo strikes the USS Indianapolis, he is left to fight for his life with hundreds of other seamen while they battle hunger, blazing sunshine, no fresh water and swarms of sharks.

This fictional account of a true WWII disaster is an action-packed, tense read from cover to cover. The horrific situation is brought to life through the eyes of a sixteen-year-old boy who questions his place in the war, his responsibilities at home and his difficult feelings about the cultural conflict. The story never lets up as Josh faces one terrifying situation after another and keeps readers engaged with an array of realistic characters and honest conversations -- both internal and external -- about complex topics.

I especially enjoyed the extensive back matter including a factual section about sharks, World War 2 facts tailored for young readers and information about the controversial handling of the USS Indianapolis wreck.
