Description

Yoshihiro Togashi's manga career began in 1986 at the age of 20, when he won the coveted Osamu Tezuka Award for new manga artists. He debuted in the Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1989 with the romantic comedy Tende Shôwaru Cupid. From 1990 to 1994 he wrote and drew the hit manga YuYu Hakusho, which was followed by the dark comedy science-fiction series Level E and the adventure series Hunter x Hunter. In 1999 he married the manga artist Naoko Takeuchi.

Features & Highlights

  • Plucky Gon’s quest to find his dad leads him into a whole world of crazy adventure.
  • Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasures, magical beasts, and even other people. But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam. Those who do pass gain access to restricted areas, amazing stores of information, and the right to call themselves
  • Hunters.
  • Gon and Killua are so incompetent at fighting the monsters on Greed Island that a Hunter named Biscuit has taken pity and offered to coach them in the use of their Nen powers. But the clock is ticking, for a violent player known as "the Bomber" has a plan to get his hands on all but ten of the item cards in one fell swoop.

Wrong cover on book

I have ordered a number of volumes from this series for my daughter and she has really been enjoying them. However, when she got to volume 15 and opened it, it was actually volume 18 despite the fact that the cover clearly says volume 15! I am reluctant to reorder volume 15 as it may have the same problem.

The Greed Island Story Heats Up

Hunter x Hunter, Vol. 15 sees Gon and Killua playing Greed Island, the nen video game. Biscuit, the 57-year-old woman who looks like a little girl, is training them while a gang of players collude to finish the game. How will this story affect Gon and Killua, though? They were recruited by the group but turned the opportunity down in the previous volume. Also, the Spiders have found the real Greed Island, but can they stay there? Also, it's nearing the end of the year, and Killua needs to take the Hunter's exam.

This is a very good book, but not a great one. It bangs you over the head with Gon and Killua's friendship and how well they're matched but in a way that's warm and almost funny. The strength of the volume lies in its connections to earlier volumes, specifically Greed Island, the Hunter's exam, and YorkNew. I really can see why people adore this series. It's intelligently constructed. For instance, Greed Island is based on video games and card games, but not everyone knows about those games, so Gon plays the part of the gaming neophyte, and everything is explained. ****1/4

A Great Series, a Good Read

I highly enjoyed this book of the series, one of my favorite arcs where Gon and Killua play the game of Greed Island, but also grow stronger and learn the applications of their newly found powers.
