How to sell out and become a clone...

This book is an interesting read if you can get past the typos – for artists it has some good resources; however the majority of this book is a sales pitch for Mr. Huff’s coaching etc… I took a look at the webpage and signed up for some more of the information, what I got was a ton of emails and promotions etc… not the least of it fit the bill. I have no interest in Pinterest or selling my work like some POP artist and it would seem that from this book it’s the only way it can be done.
I would skip this book and look into “Death to the Starving Artist” by Nikolas Allen, “Real Artist Don’t Starve” by Jeff Goins or even “Art, Money, Success” Maria Brophy. All of these books have great information and you don’t get the used car salesman pitch with them. You get real information for what it takes to be a successful artist in a modern world without being a clone or sell out.

Solid advice, though rarely earth-shattering, weirdly terrible illustrations

Really good advice on how to market yourself and build a social network, although nothing especially earth shattering: post online, post often, search for connections, be interesting.

I would have appreciated a little more step-by-step, nitty-gritty details; instead of "here are several good things to do, start anywhere," I would have liked "here's a tried and true path to building your brand online." I would have liked to have read at the very beginning, "Here are a few basic things you need to think about before launching yourself into online selling, including selling as a small business, thinking about taxes, keeping track of sales/expenses, how much stock/inventory to keep (which is admittedly difficult to do when the stroke is so broad, not focusing on print mediums specifically)" (none of those topics are touched upon). I would have liked more first-hand accounts, anecdote-style, from different artists and their process, especially of meshing the creation of art, marketing art, and fitting in the day job. I would have been interested to read about what types of art are more or less lucrative, although I can guess, and in which corners of the Internet this or that product is more sellable (because he touches on specific websites you can use to spread and sell your art, it wouldn't have been misplaced info).

It did help me focus my thoughts, though, and gave me some good pointers from someone who's made it work. My biggest complaint about this book is that the illustrations are BEYOND atrocious. I couldn't decide if it was more annoying or insulting, but the illustrations are very mediocre, even featuring a six-fingered woman. Awesome.

Cory has hit it on the nail! New Bible for Artists!

This is awesome! Cory Huff has done an incredible job. He includes stories to get his point across. In addition solid helpful information for any creative artist.

It is perfect for me who has been successful in galleries but life changing events keep me from creating the artwork I prospered from. This book is a giving me courage to talk about my artwork and follow my heart. Thank you Cory for helping to educate the public and artists that we can prosper being who we truly are. The creative process and the value of that creativity is reinforced with this book. Cory has hit it on the nail! So very grateful for your book Cory.

Ya wanna make money makin' art?

Read, then enact this book.
First half addresses the artist whine, "but I don't want to be a businessman, I wanna make art!" In capitalist America, unless you're kept, they're one and the same. He's brutal, kind, and funny.
Then he gets down to bi'ness. Nuts and bolts steps to joining the 21st century sales force - online.
Do-able, parsed, achievable goals.
I can't wait to start!
