Description

"Francesca Simon has done it again and Horrid Henry causes more trouble than ever in these new books. It's refreshing to see a series whose main character is a trouble-maker--because if we can't laugh at books, then what can we laugh at?" ― Examiner.com "Horrid Henry has jumped the pond and if you have or teach children in the early independent reader stage, you’re going to want to check Henry out." ― Reading Rumpus/Examiner.com "I think the author and illustrator have something great going and that Horrid Henry will become more well-known then Junie B. Jones. The joy is, that Horrid Henry is liked by both boys AND girls. The books lists ages 7-10 but my 12-year-old niece loves them too." ― SMS Book Reviews "I think there must be a lot of naughty schoolboy living inside my feathers, because I enjoyed Horrid Henry." ― The Book Chook "That little mischief maker Horrid Henry is at it again. Think of Dennis the Menace with an ornery attitude and you will get a feeling for Horrid Henry. This young man has a way of getting into trouble, causing lots of headaches and bringing tons of laughs. A most excellent way to get even the most reluctant of readers to read! Horrid Henry will appeal to both boys and girls with his antics and makes for a fun family read-along time. " ― Cafe of Dreams "Following the success of this spring's initial Horrid Henry invasion (4 books, 16 stories of unrivaled mischief and bad behavior,) the elementary aged yobbo is back in Horrid Henry and the Scary Sitter and Horrid Henry's Underpants . Having already established that Horrid Henry is fairly irredeemable, author Francesca Simon and illustrator Tony Ross continue to play up Henry for all his comedic value. His parents continue to despair in the face of his behavior (although they get some sweet, if unintended, revenge in Horrid Henry Eats a Vegetable.) And little brother Perfect Peter is starting to develop as less perfect and more prim; he is not so perfect that he isn't above bickering with Horrid Henry and conniving to get his own way, as he does in Horrid Henry's Car Journey. But what readers want is Horrid Henry getting in and out of scrapes and providing a good laugh, and that is exactly what they get." ― Not Just For Kids "The rebel in every reader, young and old, will revel in Horrid Henry's hilarious exploits, and be hungry for more." ― Book Loons "What do vegetables, underpants, letters, and feeling sick have in common? Not much, but they are the basis behind this gut-busting next addition to the series. Horrid Henry's Underpants has to be one of my favorite stories from this particular collection; I don't think any reader could keep a straight face the moment that Horrid Henry discovers he mistakenly put on frilly, pink, girls underwear before leaving for school. The rest of the collection may have been written wittily for children, but certainly provide total parent satisfaction. Parents will appreciate the story of Henry eating vegetables, well, pretending to eat vegetables; the sick day that involves the whole family; and the thank you letter writing; none of which end in Henry's favor. I recommend this particular collection for a very fun family read." ― The Children’s Book Review "I was really surprised how versatile I found these books. As a female reader, I was certain that they would be attempting to appeal more to male readers, but I was wrong. Simon does an amazing job at making this series appeal to both boys and girls, as well as make family reading accessible. These books are geared towards children ages 7-10, and make great starter books. I would recommend these to any parent with readers just starting out or having a hard time reading. Overall, the Horrid Henry books are a great series for kids looking for action, adventure, and laughs. They will definitely keep your child's attention, and have them begging to read more about Horrid Henry and his antics." ― The Never-Ending Shelf "I’ve been hearing about how popular Henry is with young readers, and now that I’ve read a couple of titles myself I can see why. Henry is always getting into trouble, and he always learns something from his antics. It’s not always something positive, but he always learns something." ― Mother Daughter Book Club.com "Without a doubt, these are some of the funniest kid stories I've ever read! Have you ever read "Dennis the Menace"? These books remind me irresistibly of those. Written in the same mischievous yet innocent, tongue-in-cheek manner, trouble finds Henry whether he's looking for it or not (and yes, he's often looking for it!). Amusing and appealing, they made me glad that my kids don't behave as horribly as that - yet! If you haven't picked up a Horrid Henry book yet, make it your goal this holiday season. More info on this series can be found at Sourcebooks." ― Blog "Horrid Henry, the number one British bad boy, is back to dish out some mischievous and bratty behavior. Don't take the name lightly; Henry is indeed a horrible kid who makes Dennis the Menace look like Barney. His behavior is at times so over the top nasty you'll cringe!Henry is a little stinker, and some of his antics are funny, others despicable. One thing is for sure: next to Henry, your own kids will look like perfect angels even on their worst of days." ― Blog "Horrid Henry is―well, as horrid as ever. But in Horrid Henry’s Underpants, he no longer triumphs in each story. Some of his tricks actually rebound to affect him." ― Blog "Mischievous doesn’t even describe Horrid Henry. He’s devious, sneaky, and a few other words. And most of all, horrid. But the great thing about the Horrid Henry titles is that he always learns his lesson. Each book contains four stories with simple but funny plots.Horrid Henry is a little boy who definitely lives up to his name. He constantly teases his brother, Perfect Peter, who subscribes to magazines such as "Best Boy" and delights in eating his vegetables." ― Blog "Horrid Henry’s Underpants takes Henry’s Adventures to a whole new level. In these stories, it seems Henry is faced with many roadblocks in his attempt to be, well, horrid. Every child needs to read the underpants story to remind themselves that things really can get worse!" ― Blog " Horrid Henry's Underpants " ―- This is the funniest story in the two books, and of course, kids will get a kick out of the use of the word "underpants" in the title and throughout the story." ― Blog Francesca Simon was born in the United States and attended both Yale and Oxford universities. Unsuitable for children! "Horrible"

Unfortunately, I bought each book for my seven year old son. Even he could not believe how "horrible" Henry behaved with absolutely NO consequences. One book has Henry singing about hitting an old person on the head with a cane. I am "horrified" that these books are published and further shocked they have been endorsed by parents. These books are so deplorable I will not pass along to friends or donate. They will end up in the garbage where they belong. Reckless content pretty much sums it up. Oh, I looked at the author's photo and let's just say I wasn't surprised.

"What a terrible attitude this child has

These books are not appropriate for children, by any means. In the beginning of each story, I thought to myself, "What a terrible attitude this child has, I can't wait for the end where he learns to listen." That never happens. The only thing these books teach are how to disrespect your parents and disregard all authority. I would never recommend these to anyone.

Stay away from this Horrid series...

I usually don’t write reviews. I bought these books recently for my 7yr old. Read few chapters. I would stay away from this series. The language the kid uses, name calling, behavior, attitude towards others is all in bad taste. Might be a bad influence on the kids.

funny kids book

this book is a cartoon that my 8 year old loves. the main character is a child who misbehaves without punishment, more like terrible pranks...I was iffy about my son reading and watching this because I didn't want him to be influenced. he thinks the books are funny and understands not to emulate the behavior and pranks...its hard getting him to read so I allowed this series which isn't awful and is actually pretty funny

Horrid Henry will make even the worst kid look good!

My 8 year old son laughs and laughs reading these books. He says they are really funny. He stays interested in them all the way through. He likes that Horrid Henry does everything wrong. It makes him feel better about himself. Both parents also found the books entertaining and well-written.
