Description

Hit and Run was by far the hardest of the Callahan Security series books to write. The story I had imagined for the characters was not the story that appeared on the page. As a writer, often times I have worked very hard to plan out a book, so I know where I am going. Gage and Dani just refused to stick to the script. From the very beginning I had no control over these characters. Sometimes they would yell their story to me (usually when I was trying to sleep!) and other times they were strangely silent. I hope you enjoy Gage and Dani's story. "Swoon worthy." "Jaw dropping.""Keep you on the edge of your seat." Lori Matthews loves books. As an award willing author, she loves nothing more than creating a story that starts with a bang and keeps going with plenty of action, and a side of hot romance. She gravitated toward reading because of her parents' habit of leaving books all over the house. Her father loved thrillers and her mother loved romance. Lori combines the two and writes what she calls romantic thrillers. Lori's work has won or been a finalist more than a dozen times and she was won three Daphne awards for her Callahan Security series. She lives in New Jersey with her children--who are thrilled with her writing as it means she often forgets about dinner and they get to eat pizza--and her very supportive husband. suspense and drama from the start

This is the 3rd book in the Callahan security series and is probably my favorite. I loved the story. There was enough drama and suspense to keep the story going right from the beginning. I loved it and I will continue to read more by this author.

Hit and Run

Dani is a hacker. Someone is trying to kill her and steal the soft wear she is developing. Gage has been on a wild goose chase trying to find the hacker he’s firm has been hired to protect. He hates hackers. Can he put aside his hatred long enough to protect 1 extremely sexy hacker?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

Fun, Romantic-Suspense Romp

Hit and Run is the third book in a series, Callahan Securities, by the author Lori Mathews, but it is the first I have read by this author. I received an eArc via NetGalley and will do my best to give a fair review. The book is a fun, romantic-suspense romp, but it does have its’ issues. The premise sounds great; a stubborn female hacker is hiding from killers who want her computer program, and an arrogant private security man is dispatched to find and protect her. Any good romance reader can see where this is going! Dani Pierce and Greg Callahan butt heads from the start, but Dani soon sees the upside to letting him keep her safe.

For the most part, I enjoyed this story. Dani and Greg spent most of the book eluding and hiding from the bad guys. Typical stuff, and there were some funny moments. The first problem I had was I couldn't feel a romantic connection between the two at all, and then Bam! Romantic interlude happens! I never understand how this happens. The second issue I had was that I understand this is an eArc, and there are supposed to be errors. However, this book is so full of them; it is exceedingly difficult to read. I think I’m going to become a professional proofreader!

Under normal circumstances, this would have been a fast read and fun as well. I would give it 3 ½ stars, but due to the many errors, I have dropped it down to 3 stars. I do think I will read the other books in her series, in any case.

Update: The publisher graciously sent me a corrected copy, which I was easily able to read. It made the story so much easier to follow and enjoy. That said, I am still giving the book 3 ½ stars. It is not a bad book; in fact, quite a pleasant romp, and my original rating stands. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read it.

Lots of action

This is my first read by the author. I wish I had read the previous books in the series. I wouldn't say they are completely necessary but I would have gotten a fuller picture of the storyline. The story was fast paced and had a lot of action. My only issue was that it seemed like there was no real reconciliation after the blow up. There was a lot of hurtful things said on both sides and the author seemed to gloss over it during the wrap up of the story.

An exciting autumn read!

When Dani witnesses a woman die after getting hit by a car, she realizes that she’s been ‘found.’ She’s been working on a secret programming project for Jameson Drake, and she’s done her best to stay under the radar, but the woman who dies is wearing a coat just like hers, and has similar hair.

The similarities are too close to ignore. She decides to leave Alaska, and Drake sends her a bodyguard. Gage and his brothers run Callahan Security, and Gage has been all over Europe searching for Dani. Unfortunately, he’s spotted the same men in multiple locations, and knows they are searching for her as well.

Dani and Gage each have some fears and emotional issues to confront in this story. Dani’s are a result of trauma she suffered as a child, and Gage’s stem from the loss of a close friend during a covert operation. Both have to learn how to live with the reality of these issues and accept them in each other before they can consider having a relationship.

Gage and Dani have to figure out how these criminals keep finding them. Apparently there’s a mole in Drake’s employ, and they are wreaking havoc and danger around the world in various projects he has in the works. The mystery of who and why Dani and Drake are both targets leads to tight pacing and several close escapes!

This book holds the reader’s interest throughout. Dani is a strong female protagonist, and she is able to hold her own against Gage while waging battles of wits and verbal exchanges. There are times when Dani has to face things that scare her, and Gage offers her support without belittling her. There are times when Gage is rigid in his thinking, and this causes both of them significant pain and suffering. There are many things to love about this book and it should make a wonderful summer or autumn read!
