Description

Effused with tenderness, McBratney's wise, endearing, and droll story is enriched by the near-monochromatic backdrop of Jeram's pen-and-wash artwork, rendered earthy tones of moss, soft brown, and gray for a visually quieting effect just right for that last soothing tale before sleep.—Publishers Weekly (starred review)An endearing nursery game is beautifully revitalized in this comforting, sleepy-time picture book. . . . There's not a wrong note in this tender tale, which should become an endearing bedtime favorite — right up there with Goodnight Moon.—Booklist (starred review)Every parent will relate.—USA TodayA well-written gem with sprightly illustrations.—L.A. ParentAn extraordinary children's book that captures the unique dialogue between a parent and child.—Child MagazineThe perfect bedtime story for sleepy little ones. Sam McBratney's soft, repetitive text is reminiscent of classic tales by Margaret Wise Brown (Goodnight Moon, The Runaway Bunny). . . . Anita Jeram's watercolor renderings of this endearing pair add sweet humor to a finely crafted book.—Christian Science Monitor Sam McBratney (1943−2020) is the author of the internationally best-selling classic Guess How Much I Love You and its sequel, Will You Be My Friend? , as well as All My Favorites, all illustrated by Anita Jeram. Features & Highlights

  • How much will the youngest readers love this board book edition? Now with a refreshed cover in a format perfect for little hands.
  • "Guess how much I love you," says Little Nutbrown Hare. Little Nutbrown Hare shows his daddy how much he loves him: as wide as he can reach and as far as he can hop. But Big Nutbrown Hare, who can reach farther and hop higher, loves him back just as much. Well then, Little Nutbrown Hare loves him right up to the moon, but that's just halfway to Big Nutbrown Hare's love for him.

Great hard cover book!

Very cute little hard book. I got the hard covered with the hard pages due to my toddler being a bit aggressive with her books. So these are durable and great for bedtime stories. I don't have to worry about paper cuts or pages being torn with these type of books. Def recommend.

My 4 month old son loves it!

I bought this for my 4 month old son to read with his dad, but I thought of bringing this to his photoshoot for his Easter pics. I'm glad I did!

I just dislike reading this book

I just dislike reading this book. The story is cute, my son enjoys it. He likes to act out the different pages. My struggle comes with having to say nut brown hair a billion times. Its awkward and just messes with the flow of the story. Wouldnt it have been just as great of a story by saying "Little Hare" and "Big Hare"?

Weird message - competition=love?

This book had a great review online, but when I received it and read it I could not believe the message. I think the author had good intentions of showing how much the parent loves the child. However, every time the child says how much he loves the parent, the parent one-ups him. The parent always has to have the last word. It's just odd. I don't know how this story got to be so popular.

It also goes back and forth regarding who loves who more which would be cute but from my perspective it seems as if big nutbrown

I was looking around for book options for my 7 month old and purchased this one based on the reviews. I have to say I am not that impressed. It is a story about little nutbrown hare and big nutbrown hare. The whole story is going back and forth from saying big nutbrown hare and little nutbrown hare. It is a tongue twister for sure and confusing. It also goes back and forth regarding who loves who more which would be cute but from my perspective it seems as if big nutbrown hare is in competition with little nutbrown hare which makes little nutbrown hare seem as if how much he love big nutbrown hare is never enough because big nutbrown hare always seems to beat him out. Little nutbrown hare seems discouraged. Just my opinion.

Fantastic gift idea for new baby

I have very fond memories of my parents reading me this board book as a young child, and so I bought this as a gift for a co-worker who was expecting a baby. The shipping speed and quality of the board book was great, and he was very happy with the gift. I'm now expecting a baby myself, and plan on buying a second copy for my own child.

IF I HAVE TO SAY "NUTBROWN HARE" ONE MORE TIME... Cute story but needs more color... or less words.

6 inches across and as tall as an iPhone 5... Would make a great diaper bag book if my daughter liked it.

Don't know what all the fuss is over this book. It is too wordy for my little one and has a total of 4 colors, mostly brown, black, green, and white. I will be saving for when my daughter is older. She is currently 7 months but we read colorful books for 45 minutes daily. This one is just bleh.

Every page looks the same.. And the two rabbits names get my tongue twisted after the 3rd page.

Guess How Much I'm Better Than You

"Little Nutbrown Hare" tries to tell "Big Nutbrown Hare" how much he loves him, in which BNBH uses it to show how much better he can do things than LNBH. A less secure little bunny would have retreated into a corner after the Big Hare's refusal to acknowledge how big his son's love is for him. Not big enough?
Not a good example of how people should relate to others.
The author is also showing us how much better they are by being too sophisticated to use baby words like Daddy, bunny, or baby. It's too wordy for the age range.

Weird wording

This book is a mouth full to read. Concept is great. But the characters names are Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare. And you say it about one hundred times.

i'm not into it. Sandra Boynton books are fun and easy on the tongue.
