About the Author Adam Gamble, is a writer, a photographer, and a publisher. He is the author of many books in the Good Night Books series, In the Footsteps of Thoreau, and A Public Betrayed. He lives in Sandwich, MA. Illustrator Cooper Kelly grew up in Connecticut and New York City and currently lives in Paris, France. He works in a variety of styles and has illustrated for a wide range of clients in adult and children’s publishing. He has illustrated about a dozen titles in the Good Night Books series so far, including the best-selling Good Night Beach and Good Night Dump Truck and the recently published Good Night Pirate Ship.

My son and I just love the Good Night books

My son and I just love the Good Night books, but this one was a true disappointment. The art is unpleasant--it's more like full color Dahl sketches, which is the wrong style for a toddler. My son hates looking at it and says, "bye-bye, no-no" when I pick it up. It's a shame, because he was so excited when it arrived.

Also, this book is less inclusive than the other Good Night books. This one is so strongly gendered it's bizarre: only men are doing anything in this book--page by page: a man runs, a lady sits, a man snorkels, a man examines a crab, a man shows his son a crab, men boat, men fish, a man is a lifeguard, a man and a woman eat sandwiches, a man surfs, men surf cast, a man plays guitar, a man and a woman carry children off the beach. Halfway through the book I noticed this trend and it's really disturbing. I'll be putting this one in the donation bin.
