Description

Praise for FRIDAY ON MY MIND: “Crisp prose and an intriguing main character distinguish French’s strong fifth mystery. . . A twisting series of events lead Klein to be face to face with the killer in a powerful ending.” –Publishers Weekly Praise for THURSDAY'S CHILDREN: “You'll ache for Frieda as she tears open old wounds and cheer when she finally shows signs of healing from her lacerations.”— Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “This visceral read tackles a sensitive subject with empathy, anger, and grace. A skillfully woven plot and deftly drawn characters complement the central mystery, which engages and satisfies while developing the series arc.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review) —Booklist (starred review) “Fierce, fascinating and full of insight, Frieda Klein is irresistible.” —Val McDermid, bestselling author of Splinter the Silence Praise for WAITING FOR WEDNESDAY: " Waiting for Wednesday skillfully balances on a barely-there thread of a tightrope, straddling police procedural-psychological suspense territory while keeping its protagonist utterly human, flaws and all."-- The Boston Globe "There's enough backstory for this third Frieda Klein mystery to stand alone, but the greatest pleasure is in following the series from the beginning to see the evolution of Klein, a detective of the mind, who endures a rough patch here but makes it through the darkness. Another compelling entry in this complex, suspenseful series."-- Booklist (Starred review)"Demanding the reader's full attention, this richly detailed and intricate thriller weaves the story of Frieda's life, past and present, into a compelling and suspenseful story. Fans of Elizabeth George will appreciate French's attention to subtlety and detail."-- Library Journal (Starred review)"As a protagonist, Frieda Klein breaks all the rules.... Grounding Klein's complicated character is the authors' sublime prose. The Thames is so real we can smell its stink; the dark city streets so vividly evoked we can see steam rising off the pavement after a rain. This is top-notch writing, sensual, deep, and wise."-- Mystery Scene "Not only is the plot of this story intricately woven by this husband and wife team of writers, but the ending is one that will leave you gasping for breath!"-- Suspense Magazine "Another fabulous installment... Husband and wife Nicci Gerard and Sean French excel at creating rich and complicated characters... Plus the series just keeps getting better and better!" -- No More Grumpy Bookseller Praise for TUESDAY'S GONE: "A fiercely intelligent, multilayered thriller." -- Kirkus "Seamlessly mixes a foreboding tone and deliberate pacing with deft plot twists that should leave readers pleasantly chilled to the bone." -- Publishers Weekly "Starts as a grim psychological thriller in the vein of Dennis Lehane's darker novels and turns into a fascinating puzzle in which character analysis holds sway. Highly recommended for fans of psychological suspense who enjoy a complex protagonist." -- Library Journal (starred review) "The plotting is fast-paced with surprises galore, and characters literally come to life on the pages. . . . When readers are through, they will find themselves waiting impatiently for Wednesday to arrive!"-- Suspense Magazine Praise for BLUE MONDAY :"Fast-paced and spooky...it leaves readers with the promise of intriguing tales to come." -- People (starred review) "A neat puzzle with a satisfying resolution and a terrific twist at the end." -- The New York Times Book Review "A superb psychological thriller . . . With its brooding atmosphere, sustained suspense, last-minute plot twist, and memorable cast of characters, this series debut will leave readers eager to discover what color Tuesday will be." -- Publishers Weekly , (starred review )"Complex and flawed, Frieda Klein is a refreshingly human protagonist, an intriguing debut for a truly unique character." -- Tami Hoag , bestselling author of Down the Darkest Road "A searing psychological thriller in the rich vein of Kate Atkinson and Laura Lippman, Blue Monday is powerful and gripping--a page-turner with heart and soul. Psychotherapist Frieda Klein is an enormously appealing new series hero." -- Joseph Finder , bestselling author of Buried Secrets "Nicci French creates a haunting and complex psychological puzzle about memory and heredity, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end. This gripping thriller certainly bodes well for the future of the series and I look forward to reading more about unlikely heroine Frieda Klein." -- Camilla Läckberg , bestselling author of The Ice Princess "A fabulous, unsettling, and riveting look at motives and memory and relationships. Not the best in the series, but still a terrific read

Love the authors and this series. As always, the pages turn fast and steady. However, the reveal of who done it comes a bit out of left field and in the last 30 pages so it feels a bit rushed, and a but of a cheat. So not the best in the series, but still a terrific read

It's tough being Frieda's friend

This is the fifth book in the Frieda Klein series. It starts with a bloated corpse floating down the Thames River. Once the police have pulled the body out of the water they check for identification but discover there is no wallet or cell phone. The fully clothed body of the man has a hospital band which reads Dr. F. Klein.

Frieda is now a suspect in a murder.

“It’s complicated being Frieda’s friend.” Reuben made that statement as a group of her friends and supporters were gathering, trying to figure out where she was. Frieda is accused of murder in this book and we are introduced to a new cast of detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department. My favorite detective, Malcolm Karlsson, is still making appearances in this series.

Frieda reminds me of a more polished, cooler version of the Murder She Wrote stories. There is always a murder connecting and threading itself into her life. It’s not a cozy mystery for sure.

I always notice the food and meals mentioned in books. This time it's the following:

“She went to the shops and bought herself enough for the next few days; milk, bread and butter, some bags of salad and Sicilian tomatoes, salty blue cheese, smoked salmon, raspberries and a little carton of cream.

Once home, she had a long bath, then roamed through each room, making doubly sure everything was in its proper place. She ate smoked salmon on rye bread and drank a single glass of white wine."

I'm looking forward to getting the next book in the series.

Highly recommend this. My thanks to Penguin books UK via ...

his is the 5th book in the Frieda Klein series. I didn’t realise that when I wanted to read it.
I think that I’ve missed lots of things having not read the previous ones, however, I soon got into this plot. Mostly I missed out of knowing Frieda but the plot soon made up for this.
A dead mans body is found, a hospital name tag on his wrist traces back to Frieda herself. It’s made the police suspect her and they really are convinced it’s her who killed him.
She goes on the run, doesn’t want to be arrested for something she’s not guilty of.
She wants to find out who killed her fiancé.
It’s clear this is going to be a complex story and it was.
What I wasn’t expecting was that thud in the face that makes you do a double take.......what in the hell was that!
This author is so well known for her fabulous books, I need to go to the start of this series.
Highly recommend this.
